Job description

Summary or Purpose Supervise the accounting staff; and the preparation, documentation, disbursement, and reporting of financial documents and information, including accounts payable and receivable. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification. Shown are duties intended to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities.

Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties. Directs the daily activities of the Accounting work group through appropriate delegation, technical skills training, and work supervision; meets regularly with staff to discuss and resolve workload and technical issues; recommends changes as necessary. Assures the quality of accounting documents and work products; reviews and approves all document preparation for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with Federal, State, and local policies and practices.

Recruits, evaluates and supervises staff; coordinates staff development programs; monitors operations to identify and resolve problems. Reconciles transactions and accounting data according to policies; records changes, reconciles and resolves differences; reviews accounting and accounting records and corrects errors as required. Reviews accounting document batches, and other source documents for compliance to rules and regulations; checks documents for validity and accuracy of information; collects, records, files and distributes related paperwork.

Collects data and compiles data for reports, updates and corrects databases. Maintains cooperative working relations with the villages, departments, customers and outside agencies; serves as liaison between various organizations and agencies; serves on committees, task forces and other groups to coordinate and standardize accounting procedures. Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of Borough policies and procedures. Knowledge of principles and practices of accounting and mathematical computations. Knowledge of the principles of record keeping and records management.

Knowledge of specialized computer hardware and software applications. Skill in reading, interpreting, understanding and applying accounting standards and procedures, applicable Federal rules and regulations, and Borough policies and procedures. Skill in supervision, coordinating staff, and delegating tasks and authority.

Skill in reviewing and correcting mathematical calculations and computations. Skill in correcting and updating financial and accounting information systems.
