Job description

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:
As a Civil CAD Technician, this position offers the opportunity to work in a team environment on Civil construction projects utilizing the latest 3D CAD Technology to build 3D surface and terrain models, survey staking files, stringless files for GPS/Total Station controlled construction equipment.
This is an office position and will be responsible for producing accurate and detailed 3D construction models and CAD files for civil engineering projects, such as airport & commercial facilities, industrial & residential developments, warehouses & distribution centers, public works infrastructure including highways & bridges, drainage systems & utilities, etc.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Draft 3D site models and survey staking files using CAD software, including Trimble Business Center and Civil 3D
  • Assist in the review of designs for consistency, safety, operability, and maintenance requirements
  • Collaborate with Project Managers and other stakeholders to develop accurate designs
  • Maintain and organize accurate records and files
  • Perform quality control checks on completed designs
  • Communicate effectively with project team members and clients
  • Work with internal staff to coordinate design and constructability solutions
  • Other duties as assigned

SKILLS & ABILITIES:
  • Understanding of civil design
  • Experience with CAD Design Software (Trimble Business Center or Civil 3D, preferred)
  • Knowledge of commonly used civil engineering concepts, practices, and procedures
  • Ability to read and interpret civil engineering plans and documents
  • Ability to understand drafting standards and design documentation
  • Experience examining and checking engineering drawings for compliance with cited specifications
  • Ability to draft and clearly communicate RFI's (Request for information) and Proposals to Project Managers and Engineers
  • Work efficiently in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment
  • Detail oriented
  • Enjoys learning and taking on challenges
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Strong technical aptitude and knowledge of basic computer technology
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks fast paced environment
  • Dependable and able to work independently with little supervision as well as with a team of individuals
  • Must have the ability to work extended hours as required by the workload

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Experience with Trimble Business Center (TBC) is preferred, however candidates with a strong CAD background will be considered and training will be provided.
  • 2+ years of experience in civil CAD or related field
  • Associates degree in Engineering, Drafting Technology, or similar field, or equivalent experience, preferred.
  • Proficiency in CAD software, preferably Trimble Business Center and Civil 3D
  • Knowledge of construction and civil engineering principles and practices
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
