Job description

Job Description Tharros is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer specializing in Computer Systems Engineering to support the NSWCDD A Department in Dahlgren, VA. These engineers provide senior-level technical expertise in the analysis, design, integration, test, and sustainment of complex computer-based systems supporting Navy and DoD weapon, combat, command-and-control, situational awareness, strategic fire control, and mission-support capabilities throughout the full system lifecycle. The position requires a strong understanding of computer systems engineering, system architecture and design, hardware and software integration, requirements development, system interfaces, configuration management, technical documentation, and test and evaluation. Projects include engineering support for complex, software-intensive DoD computer systems, with an emphasis on translating operational and engineering requirements into system designs, integrating hardware, software, networks, and COTS/GOTS technologies, evaluating system performance and interoperability, and supporting system development, integration, testing, deployment, and sustainment throughout the full system lifecycle. Requirements * Perform total lifecycle computer systems engineering and analysis, supporting requirements development, milestone decisions, system architecture, design, integration, test, deployment, and sustainment. * Analyze operational, scientific, and engineering challenges to determine how computer systems, software applications, computing infrastructure, and integrated technologies can be applied to meet mission requirements. * Translate upper-level operational and mission requirements into computer system requirements, design parameters, system architectures, interfaces, technical specifications, and concepts of operation. * Develop and maintain system design specifications, CONOPS, interface documentation, integration plans, system architecture documentation, and other technical engineering products for complex computer-based mission systems. * Analyze and define hardware, software, network, data, and system interface requirements necessary to support reliable integration and operation within complex DoD environments. * Support the integration of GOTS, COTS, custom software, computing hardware, networks, and other system components into existing and emerging mission-system architectures. * Lead and support system-level requirements analysis, design studies, trade studies, risk assessments, producibility analyses, performance analyses, and technical evaluations for new capabilities and system modifications. * Evaluate proposed system changes and Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs) for impacts to computer system architecture, interfaces, performance, interoperability, configuration, and mission requirements. * Support system integration, test and evaluation, verification and validation, troubleshooting, deployment, and post-delivery support for computer-based systems operating in laboratory, shipboard, and other operational environments. * Identify and resolve complex hardware/software integration, system interface, performance, interoperability, and computing architecture issues throughout the engineering lifecycle. * Participate in technical design reviews, system architecture reviews, configuration control boards, test readiness reviews, engineering working groups, and other technical forums. * Coordinate with systems engineers, software developers, hardware engineers, cybersecurity professionals, testers, program leadership, and government stakeholders to ensure computer system solutions effectively address operational and engineering requirements. * Provide technical leadership and mentorship to journeyman and junior engineers supporting computer systems analysis, systems engineering, integration, and test activities. Requirements * Active TS/SCI clearance. * A Bachelor of Science (BS) degree from an accredited college or university in an engineering, scientific, computer science, information technology, or other technical discipline and at least eight (8) years of relevant experience; OR ten (10) years of demonstrated and established knowledge and subject matter expertise within the applicable technical discipline. * 5+ years of concurrent experience as a team leader performing systems engineering and mission engineering efforts that include developing requirements, top-level designs, and/or system architectures for software-intensive systems. * 8+ years of full-time professional experience as a Computer Systems Analyst or comparable engineering professional, including experience planning and developing ways to use computer systems and technologies to solve complex scientific, engineering, and operational problems. * 4+ years of full-time, system-level experience in one or more of the following areas: requirements definition, system design parameters, concepts of operation, risk assessment, producibility studies and analyses, performance analysis, test and evaluation, or post-delivery support. * Demonstrated experience analyzing and engineering complex computer-based and software-intensive systems, including the interaction of hardware, software, networks, interfaces, data, and supporting infrastructure. * Experience translating operational and technical needs into system requirements, architectures, design specifications, integration approaches, and test strategies. * Demonstrated ability to evaluate complex computer system performance, identify technical risks and integration challenges, and develop practical engineering solutions that support mission objectives throughout the system lifecycle.
