Job description

We are seeking Business Analyst to join the System Engineering team support requirements analysis, business process understanding, and functional integration of new or upgraded software applications that enable manufacturing operations at General Dynamics Electric Boat. This role sits within IT and focuses on bridging the gap between operational business needs and the technical teams that develop and maintain critical enterprise systems.

The ideal candidate is a strong business-process thinker who understands how manufacturing operations work and can translate those operational needs into clear, actionable requirements for software development teams.
The candidate will work closely with application users across various business processes to support submarine manufacturing. This person will interface on a regular basis with Operations, Material Logistics, Quality Assurance, and Design & Engineering, playing a key role in advancing highvisibility projects that enhance shipbuilding velocity at EB. Day-to-day work will include project support, business process analysis, production issue troubleshooting, and managing smaller enhancements.

This position will be in North Kingstown, Rhode Island, and some travel to other locations may be required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze, learn, and document business processes and the software systems supporting them.
  • Lead requirements gathering efforts to translate business needs into functional system requirements.
  • Serve as a business process SME, ensuring requirements accurately reflect operational workflows and goals.
  • Perform root-cause analysis on issues by examining data, user workflows, and system behavior.
  • Collaborate with software development teams to support implementation of new capabilities and enhancements.
  • Create and maintain process maps, data flow diagrams, and functional documentation.
  • Support verification and validation activities by confirming that delivered functionality meets business needs.
  • Provide functional support during highly visible or critical production issues.
  • Drive cross-functional alignment and challenge inefficient or outdated workflows.

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Information Systems, Supply Chain, or Computer Science
  • 4+ years of experience in business analysis, systems analysis, or IT roles supporting manufacturing, engineering, or operations.

Preferred:

  • Experience with functional requirements management for enterprise systems.
  • Experience leading cross-functional discussions or workstreams.
  • Experience developing or supporting test planning and validation activities.
  • Experience with enterprise system integrations or complex data flows.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies and SDLC.
