Job description

POSITION TITLE: Bi-lingual Assistant Teacher

REPORTS TO: Site Manager

Various Locations

Hourly Rate: $20.02

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
 

Operate in compliance with all policies and procedures established by NKCAC Head Start and the performance standards established by the Federal Government regarding program operations. Ensure adherence to all applicable state and federal labor laws, including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), to promote and provide quality service delivery to children, families, and the community. Fulfill responsibilities as a member of the early childhood development and health services team and carry out tasks as outlined in the Component Plan.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Work cooperatively with all components of the program.
  2. Maintain the confidentiality of staff and clients in compliance with HIPAA and agency policies.
  3. Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring compliance with OSHA safety standards.
  4. Participate in the annual self-assessment and continuous improvement initiatives.
  5. Attend staff meetings and training sessions as required.
  6. Follow established child abuse reporting requirements and mandatory reporting laws.
  7. Assist in recruiting and training parent and community volunteers.
  8. Assist in securing in-kind donations to match the required non-Federal share amount each program year.
  9. Perform any other work-related tasks deemed necessary by the direct supervisor.
  10. Assume classroom operations under the direction of the Teacher.
  11. Assist the Teacher in planning daily classroom activities to meet educational and developmental needs.
  12. Assist the Teacher in structuring room arrangements to enhance learning.
  13. Supervise children’s activities in and out of the classroom to ensure their safety and well-being.
  14. Assist in meeting safety, health, and sanitation standards as outlined by local, state, and federal guidelines.
  15. Maintain and update all enrollees’ records and assessments in a timely and accurate manner.
  16. Participate in the staffing of individual children and weekly family service conferences.
  17. Work closely with parents under the guidance and supervision of the Teacher.
  18. Assist in requisitioning supplies and preparing learning activities and materials.
  19. Share in the maintenance of the room and ensure proper care and use of equipment and supplies under the Teacher’s guidance.
  20. Assist in evaluating the classroom program, prepare activities and guidance for volunteers, and encourage parent participation.
  21. Accompany the Teacher on at least two home visits per year to each family and introduce the goals of Head Start to parents.
  22. Participate in developing the individual child’s educational and special services plan.
  23. Assist the Teacher during parent/teacher conferences.
  24. Assume additional responsibilities when necessary, such as bus monitoring, classroom coverage, etc.
  25. Ensure compliance with all program and grant requirements, including federal and state labor regulations.
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Interest in working with preschool children and volunteers.
  • Willingness to obtain a Child Development Associate (CDA) certification within two years of employment as a teacher’s assistant.
  • NKCAC-Head Start cannot employ anyone convicted of a felony or who has been found by the Cabinet to have abused or neglected a child.
  • Ability to work with people of diverse and varying socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Understanding of and commitment to ADA compliance in classroom settings and interactions.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to stand, walk, and run after young children for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs as needed.
  • Ability to sit at, read, and enter data on a computer for prolonged periods.
