Job description

SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE:
National Park College is currently seeking a full-time 9-month Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice. Teaching responsibilities are 15 credit hours per semester and 10 office hours per week, with the opportunity to teach an overload and/or summer courses with sufficient student demand. Courses include lab-based classes in criminalistics and crime scene documentation and lecture courses in policing and computer law. Applicants must hold a master's degree or higher in Criminal Justice, or hold a master's degree in a related field and 18 graduate hours in Criminal Justice. Preferred qualifications: three years of teaching at the post-secondary level with preference given to community college experience and experience using available technology such as D2L Brightspace or other LMS. The salary for this position is $50,000.
Start date for the position will be August 12, 2026.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Instructs students in specialized educational programs by lecturing in classroom and laboratory settings and developing and providing individual instruction as required.
  • Interprets policies, programs and procedures related to the delivery of services.
  • Seeks, selects and uses resources compatible with student/program needs.
  • Implements a variety of strategies or approaches to meet the needs of students, including consulting with students, families and school staff, as necessary.
  • Assesses and documents attainment of program objectives.
  • Provides service to the college through committee participation.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required skills/abilities:
  • Knowledge of subject matter being taught.
  • Knowledge of educational planning and teaching techniques.
  • Knowledge of learning aids and teaching materials appropriate to the subject matter.
  • Ability to develop and teach students based on assessments and evaluation.
  • Ability to evaluate progress and revise lesson plans as needed.
  • Ability to provide advice and guidance relative to the education of the student.

Education and Experience:
  • Master's degree or higher in criminal justice or a master's degree in a related field and 18 graduate hours in criminal justice.
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching criminal justice courses both online and in person.
  • Experience in policing.
  • Experience in crime scene documentation and/or investigation using forensic science principles.

Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged sitting.
  • Extensive walking.
  • Prolonged screen time.
  • Ability to lift 30 lbs.
