SOUTH BAY SANDBLASTING & TANK CLEANING, INC. shipyard related subcontractor seeking a detail-oriented EHS & QA Coordinator to support our Navy Operations in Norfolk Virginia.
Job Summary
We're seeking an EHS & QA Coordinator with commitment to build and maintain a Safety Culture & Engagement between workers. The ideal candidate will be responsible for leading programs that protect people from environmental hazards and workplace hazards, while maintaining QA processes and procedures. Candidate can work in confined spaces and has no problem working long hours and weekends.
Must be in Norfolk Virginia, we are not looking to relocate candidates at this time.
Responsibilities:
QA 40%
  • Assist in implementing and maintain QA processes and procedures
  • Coordinate QA inspections and testing
  • Maintain QA records, reports, and certifications
  • Support non-conforming material tracking and corrective actions
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives

EHS 40%
  • Assist in implementing and maintaining EHS processes and procedures
  • Coordinate EHS inspections
  • Maintain EHS records, reports and certifications
  • Participate in incident investigations and root cause analysis
  • Accomplish regular walkthroughs with production to ensure compliance

Administrative 20%
  • Provide administrative support in EHS and QA teams
  • Maintain filing system, both physical and digital
  • Assist in document control and revision management
  • Train employees and enforce requirements

Qualifications:
  • Strong knowledge of health and safety best practices and legal requirements
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the workforce and management
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work to a timeline and meet deadlines
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Two years of previous experience in EHS, QA, or related field
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point

Education Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED, B.A., Technical/Vocational trade school, or apprenticeship (Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or Occupational Safety)
  • Must be certified HAZWOPER, DOT Hazardous Materials, and RCRA Certified.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
Work is conducted indoors and outdoors frequently exposed to prevailing weather conditions. Work indoor or aboard vessel which may have fumes, chemicals, and heat as well as noise and dust present depending upon the location of work. Safety equipment required.
The individual must be able to frequently climb inclined stairways and vertical. Work aboard the vessels can be strenuous and sometimes hazardous. Dynamic, fast-paced outdoor setting with moderate to loud noise levels from production activity in the shipyard. Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time. Must be flexible to work varying schedules and hours as needed.
