Job Description

The Network Engineer (NCS-5) is primarily responsible for managing Victaulic's global data, voice, and security infrastructure. The role ensures the reliability, accessibility, integrity, speed, and cost efficiency of network operations for the organization.

Network Components Managed

This includes, but is not limited to, oversight of the following Victaulic network systems:

LAN (Local Area Network)

WAN (Wide Area Network), which connects national and international offices

GAN (Global Area Networks), integrating LAN, WAN, and mobile communication technologies

VPN (Virtual Private Network) for employee remote access and site-to-site setups

Internet circuits providing company-wide access

WLAN (Enterprise Wireless LAN)

Responsibilities

The Network Engineer is responsible for data administration of all global network infrastructure components, including routers, switches, security devices, access points, and administrative software. Specific duties include:

Administration

Documentation

Monitoring, logging, alerting, and reporting

Design

Configuration

Maintenance

Security

Vendor & Manufacturer Management

Establishes and maintains strong relationships with new and existing business partners

Keeps up-to-date with advancements in networking technology

Planning

Develops network roadmaps to outline the adoption timeline for network technologies

Proposes networking solutions to address business challenges and needs

Move, Add, and Change Management

Installs new hardware, systems, and software for networks

Installs, configures, and maintains network services, equipment, and devices

Integrates voice with data networks where applicable

Technical Support

Performs troubleshooting and analysis of all Victaulic networks

Documents network problems and resolutions for future reference

Provides training and technical support for users with varying IT knowledge and competence

Works closely with other departments and organizations

Collaborates with other IT staff

Performance Management

Monitors system performance and implements performance tuning

Manages outsourced NOC operations, reviews trending reports, and makes recommendations

Adjusts WAN services to ensure optimal performance at minimal cost

Conducts routine preventative measures

Security

Ensures all network configurations comply with guidelines set by the Victaulic IT Security Administrator

Monitors and maintains network security, including firewalls

Qualifications

Minimum of 5 years' experience administering a Cisco data network

Technical Experience

Cisco, Routing & Switching, ASA, Network Administration

Thorough knowledge of networking essentials

Hands-on experience with network devices, policies, rights, and security in a networked environment

Comprehensive understanding of the OSI network model

Experience with security principles, including one year of Cisco ASA Firewall and/or Zone-Based Firewall (desired)

Experience implementing and administering common TCP/IP-based services, including DNS, DHCP, HTTP, FTP, SSH, and SMTP

Familiarity with Windows operating system

Experience with TCP/IP, DNS, UDP, QoS setup

Experience working with WAN technologies such as ATM or MPLS

General Requirements

Ability to prioritize tasks and multitask effectively

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Strong customer service abilities

Project and vendor management experience (desired)

Education & Certifications

Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience
