Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Ability to perform any or all of the following tests/duties:
    1. Urinalysis
    2. Rapid Strep
    3. Mono
    4. Flu
    5. RSV
    6. Accucheck
    7. Urine Pregnancy
    8. Lead
    9. T. Bilirubin
    10. ISTAT
    11. Affirm VP III
    12. Alere Triage
  • Perform finger sticks, heel sticks, and venipuncture to obtain specimens for testing
  • Analyze patient specimens on hematology analyzer
  • Prepare specimens and paperwork to be sent to LabCorp, NHRMC, OMH, or main lab
  • Collection and mailing of PKU and sickle cell filter paper test to the state laboratory
  • Instruct patients on correct procedures for collecting clean catch urine specimens
  • Prepare specimens for microscopic review
  • Set up and read ESR’s
  • Sending appropriate letters to parents when children need to repeat PKU, sickle cell, and/or lead testing
  • Keep lab supplies stocked
  • Analyze samples for proficiency testing
  • Oversee operation of lab in and communicate appropriately with site manager and lab manager
  • Bring critical lab results to attention of providers
  • Check temps in fridge, room, incubator, freezer, humidity, and record in logbook
  • Correctly package and have ready to transport any bio-hazard materials used in lab
  • Run controls of newly opened kits, i.e. strep, mono, urine, pregnancy, flu, RSV per package insert
  • Clean lab counters daily and when spills occur and record on cleaning calendar
  • Prepare control data to be sent for monthly evaluation and peer-group comparison
  • Utilize Orchard LIS system for lab order entry, result entry, patient inquiry, editing results or orders
  • Utilize EMR and EPM for appropriate lab needs
  • All other duties as assigned by Lab Manager
