Job Description Summary
This position reports to the Coordinator of Student Technology Support in the Technology Support Group (TSG) for the management and operation of the TSG Labs, providing an open, efficient and professional lab environment for students enrolled at A-B Tech. The primary focus of this position is the provision of quality, productive computer lab experiences for students. The position is responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting computer lab equipment and software, interacting with other staff of the TSG and Information Technology (IT) departments. The position is responsible for maintaining stores of supplies and ensuring the security of lab supplies, equipment and facility. Lab Aides assist with implementation and enforce TSG and A-B Tech policies, procedures, and guidelines while providing helpful, congenial assistance to lab users.
Duties
1. Maintain an up-to-date schedule;
2. Provide professional tutorial services in the open labs;
3. Supervise lab activities;
4. Supervise Lab Aides and Peer Tutors as needed;
5. Help maintain lab records as needed;
6. Provide hardware and software assistance to A-B Tech students, faculty and staff;
7. Assist computer users in a wide variety of hardware and software tasks and assignments;
8. Maintain an orderly, functional and efficient computer lab environment;
9. Assist coordinator and IT personnel with installation and maintenance of software and hardware;
10. Serve as first point of contact for in-person student IT related questions;
11. Offer assistance with Moodle, Web Advisor, and Student Email account log-in issues;
12. Submit work orders for students, faculty, and staff voicemail requests to IT;
13. Communicate effectively with clientele who need assistance;
14. Assist personnel with special projects and work assignments;
15. Assist instructors and department chairs as requested;
16. Communicate effectively with students, instructors, and staff to troubleshoot and solve problems related to the lab environment;
17. Assist in the implementation and enforce A-B Tech and Classroom/Computer Lab regulations, including the prevention of unauthorized persons from using lab facilities and equipment;
18. Other duties as assigned by the Coordinator of Student Technology Support.
Minimum Requirements
1. Associate degree;
2. Excellent human relations skills;
3. Excellent oral and written communication skills;
4. Willingness to continue learning to keep up with latest innovations and/or technologies;
5. Intermediate to Advanced knowledge of Windows and Microsoft Office;
6. Ability to maintain an orderly, functional lab environment and enforce IT and A-B Tech regulations;
7. Ability to quickly learn new software and respond to instructional support challenges;
8. Ability to troubleshoot hardware and software problems; interact with TSG and IT personnel for solutions;
9. Successful prior work experience with computer hardware and software;
10. Thorough knowledge of the hardware and software used in the TSG computer labs;
11. Working experience using Microcomputers and a variety of software and peripherals.
Preferred Qualifications
1. Familiarity with Mac OSX, Adobe products, ZoomText, and other software applications commonly used in A-B Tech computer labs.
