Job Summary and Qualifications

The Laboratory Assistant receives and processes specimens and carries out basic laboratory procedures. Additionally, there are required clerical tasks such as greeting patients, informing them of the procedures, answering phones and emails, and maintaining records. What you will do in this role:  


  • Assist in overseeing all activities in the laboratory.
  • Assist with pre-analytical aspects of specimen processing/testing within the testing departments up to actual test performance.
  • Assist in all collections have been performed in a timely manner according to the Laboratoryโ€™s Blood Collection procedure.
  • Transport all specimen samples, utilizes computer system for data entry and monitoring of workflow.
  • Centrifuge blood specimens per laboratory department specifications. 
  • Maintain phlebotomy supplies in cart, tray and store room in an organized manner.
  • Assist Supervisory staff in inventory management. 

What qualifications you will need:


  • Phlebotomy certification by ASCP and/or NCA HIGHLY desired. 
  • Phlebotomy experience in hospital laboratory preferred.
  • Approximately one year in hospital phlebotomy experience preferred.
  • MINIMUM 10+ draws per hour to keep up with hospital needs.
