The Clinic Lab Assistant supports high-quality patient care by ensuring laboratory testing is performed accurately, efficiently, and cost-effectively. This position is responsible for assisting with laboratory operations, specimen collection and processing, and the timely delivery of reliable test results to healthcare providers. The Clinic Lab Assistant helps fulfill the departmentโ€™s mission through a commitment to accuracy, service excellence, and patient-centered care in every aspect of the role.

Specimen Collection & Laboratory Testing

  • Perform all phlebotomy procedures required for laboratory tests ordered through the clinic.
  • Conduct clinic laboratory procedures in accordance with established policies, procedures, and quality standards.
  • Ensure proper specimen collection, handling, processing, and disposition to maintain specimen integrity and accurate test results.

Results Management & Patient Communication

  • Review, document, file, and communicate laboratory results according to established protocols.
  • Notify healthcare providers of laboratory test results in a timely manner and ensure accurate charting of findings.
  • Communicate laboratory results to patients as directed by healthcare providers while maintaining patient confidentiality.

Documentation, Coding & Computer Operations

  • Perform computer functions necessary for specimen tracking, results reporting, billing, and charge entry.
  • Ensure accurate diagnosis coding for laboratory tests to support appropriate documentation and reimbursement.
  • Maintain complete, accurate, and timely laboratory records and documentation.

Regulatory Compliance & Quality Assurance

  • Maintain laboratory policy and procedure manuals and assist with updates as needed.
  • Ensure laboratory operations comply with all applicable Kansas state, federal, regulatory, and accreditation requirements.
  • Follow established safety, infection prevention, and quality assurance standards.

Staffing & Operational Support

  • Assist with scheduling and maintaining adequate laboratory staffing coverage during clinic operating hours.
  • Support daily clinic operations and provide assistance with additional clinic functions as assigned by the Clinic Director.
  • Collaborate with clinic staff to promote efficient workflow and exceptional patient care.

Position Details

Schedule: Full-time, non-exempt position with the expectation to work 36-40 hours per week. Regular and punctual attendance is required.

Physical Requirements: Occasional sitting, frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, lifting/carrying 10-25 pounds; frequent reaching/grasping, twisting, pulling/pushing, frequent exposure to sharp instruments and frequent exposure to equipment.

Equipment: Ability to operate equipment safely and keep it in good working order with regular maintenance.
