Job description

Overview
This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the Mission of San Gabriel Valley Medical Center. It is expected that the employee will demonstrate behavior consistent with the Core Values. The employee shall support San Gabriel Valley Medical Center's strategic plan and the goals and direction of the Performance Improvement Plan (PIP). Position is responsible for supporting the electronic nursing documentation system, Point of Care (POC), in collaboration with the Information Technology department. Responsible for development and education of Electronic Medical Record data entry tools and data collection tools with Information Technology.
This position requires awareness of nursing documentation standards such as Joint Commission Patient Safety Goals. Assist medical staff with functions related to access of electronic patient information for decision-making. Responsible for monitoring and assuring integration of data between systems for the most optimal and complete medication record. Responsible for overseeing training and education of AHMC electronic documentation implementation.
Responsibilities
  1. Manages hospital POC projects, or portions thereof, including new nursing system selection, system implementation, benefits realization, and re-engineering processes using accepted project management techniques and tools, e.g., CPSI.
  2. Develops and maintains a significant level of expertise and competence in determining or analyzing needs for automated systems, participates in the development and clarification of user requirements, and participates in system selection processes.
  3. Consults and advises users, management, physicians, vendors, and others concerning the purpose, features, functions and proper uses of new and existing nursing systems.
  4. Identifies and recommends new and improved uses of computer applications to enhance current processes, achieve cost advantages, and/or improve customer service.
  5. Acts as a key point of contact for management and staff in assigned business areas related to nursing information systems services. Actively participates in interdepartmental meetings, leads discussions, and provides advice related to business and information systems.
  6. Helps to ensure that all nursing systems and applications are compatible and consistent with the installed base of information systems and in compliance with established architectural and technical standards.
  7. Participates in the education and training of staff related to POC project, nursing information systems, systems analysis and project management through on-the-job instruction and formal training programs.
  8. Develops and maintains a general awareness of the healthcare information systems industry, contemporary and emerging technologies, and relevant laws and regulations to provide sound advice on the acquisition and use of automated systems.

Qualifications
RN/California License, Bachelor degree required, Master's degree preferred. Minimum 2 years Acute Care Clinical Experience.

  • General understanding of key areas of the healthcare business.
  • High energy levels and tolerance of tight deadlines, time pressures, and ambiguity.
  • Two years of nursing experience.
  • Demonstrate leadership, supervision, and motivational ability.
  • Highly analytical, creative thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written.
  • Broad, contemporary knowledge of multiple areas of business systems, PCs, collaborative computing tools, re-engineering and process improvement techniques, information management in healthcare, general information architectures, systems integration, laws, and regulations.
