Job Description:

HPE is seeking Optical Hardware Engineer to join its Optical Engineering team in our Sunnyvale, CA. office. This individual will perform optics hardware testing and sustaining engineering on qualifying optics testing. This will be module level specifications and test verification across HPE’s switching, routing and security platforms.

Location: Sunnyvale, CA office on a hybrid basis of up to 3 days in the office per week.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop pluggable optical/electrical transceiver and cable assembly specifications and requirements based on industry standards and MSAs, e.g. IEEE, OIF, SNIA SFF.
  • Engage with optical transceiver suppliers on HPE’s specifications and requirements for optical product definition.
  • Create optical transceiver test plans to address verification requirements.
  • Build test stations using optical and electrical test equipment.
  • Create test automation to execute testing and store results.
  • Conduct performance characterization and qualification testing.
  • Develop software to process data, distill results and generate test reports.
  • Work closely with Signal Integrity, System Hardware and Software engineering teams with optics integration in HPE routing/switching/security systems.
  • Support HPE Customer Service teams with pluggable optics failure root cause analysis.
  • Support external optics certification and interoperability with 3rd party networking equipment.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
  • 2 + years of optical transceiver module specification and test experience.
  • Experience in hardware board design is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in optical testing modules per current optical IEEE standards and MSA specifications.
  • Must have knowledge of optical equipment, electrical equipment, and automation software used in the testing of optical modules and interfaces.
  • Ability to work on several projects simultaneously in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills working in a mutually supportive team environment.
  • Must possess written and verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly process and present test results.
