Job description

JOB SUMMARY:

The Advanced Product Engineer works with designers, engineers, assemblers, customers, and sales and marketing in order to visually provide a look and feel to Douglas Machine equipment that satisfies customers' needs and expectations. The Advanced Product Engineer helps develop and promote concepts, ideas, and existing equipment by the generation of still images, digital photography, and computer animation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

1. Steward our mission (to enrich lives by providing differentiated packaging automation and services) and values (unwavering integrity, servant's heart, ownership spirit and continuous innovation and improvement).

2. Develop animation rigs & templates, brochure imagery, multimedia presentations, promotional products, digital photography, technical illustrations, and computer artwork for use in products, technical manuals, literature, newsletters and slide shows.

3. Script, plan and create storyboards that show the flow of the animation and map out key concept/design features or technical information that needs to be communicated to the end viewer.

4. Participate in team brainstorming processes in order to help develop machine fit, form, and functional design concepts using computer aided 2D and 3D graphics software.

5. Excellent communicator open to direction and change with an attention to detail, strong mechanical aptitude and creative problem solving.

6. Test design concepts by creating working models of machine functions using computer aided 2D and 3D graphics software.

7. Enhance machine design aesthetics by creating computer generated graphical models of machine forms.

8. Is capable of designing and detailing engineering drawings through the use of SolidWorks, and other applicable CAD applications.

9. Attend design reviews (internal and external customer) as required.

10. Work in conjunction with other designers and engineers to execute Strategic Plan deliverables including, but not limited to, machine operation, on board documentation, troubleshooting, and diagnostics.

11. Provide professionally generated media, including animations and still images, to the appropriate personnel for sales and marketing purposes, internal and external training, technical documentation, etc.

12. Understand, follow, and provide illustrations or animations for the technical protection (patent) process for new product developments.

13. Maintain a commercial understanding and directional awareness of trends regarding machine design and aesthetically appealing forms of packaging equipment via technical publications, trade shows, and travel to customer facilities as required.

14. May travel as a technical resource to support the application of new technology resulting from work performed.

15. Responsible for complying with all safety policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Requires B.S. degree in Design Technology and or related field and a minimum of 3 years relevant work experience or equivalent education and/or experience including training, exposure to 2D and 3D computer graphics, and animation technology, or relevant machine knowledge.
