Job description

Northern Gear & Machining is looking for a skilled CAD Designer to join our growing team. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys turning concepts into accurate, manufacturable designs and working closely with engineering, production, and quality teams in a fast-paced precision manufacturing environment.
The ideal candidate will have experience with CAD design software such as SolidWorks and/or Inventor, strong attention to detail, and the ability to create and revise drawings, models, and technical documentation. Experience with Mastercam or CAM programming is a plus.

A CAD (Computer-Aided Design) Designer creates precise 2D and 3D technical drawings, models, and layouts for manufacturing or engineering products using software like AutoCAD, SolidWorks. They translate concepts into digital blueprints, ensuring compliance with specifications, engineering standards, and budget constraints.
Basic Job Duties:
  • Design Creation: Generate detailed 2D sketches and 3D models for parts, structures, or systems.
  • Collaboration: Work with engineers, production, and project managers to finalize designs, review drawings, and solve technical issues
  • Technical Documentation:
  • Revisions: Modify existing designs based on feedback, testing or site inspection data.
  • Compliance: Ensure all designs adhere to industry standards and safety regulations.
Skills and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field or equivalent experience.
  • 1+ years in high-volume precision metal manufacturing (preferred, but not required)
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, GD&T
  • Proficiency in CAM software, ERP systems and Microsoft programs
  • Planning and ability to think ahead and plan.
  • Problem analysis and problem resolution.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong team player.
