The Role
Newport News Shipbuilding provides students the opportunity to gain real life work experience and the potential to earn full-time employment as an Engineering Co-op. Assignments are based on a candidates goals and the Company's needs. Responsibilities and training will involve assisting professional engineers and project managers with design and analysis based on current project needs. Co-ops could find themselves working in the Submarine, Aircraft Carrier, Nuclear or Operations divisions. Candidates are expected to demonstrate flexibility and a willingness to accept various work assignments. Some engineering positions may require the ability to physically access a wide variety of work sites, including those aboard ships under various stages of construction or overhaul, including the use of vertical and inclined ladders, and may involve limited kneeling, stooping, standing, etc.
Must Have
This position requires a commitment to work up to 20 hours a week.
Applicants must meet the following criteria in order to apply:
  • U.S. Citizen
  • Must be a full time student enrolled in a 4-year college/university.
  • Must have completed freshman year.
  • Engineering majors must be ABET accredited.
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or greater.
  • Unofficial transcripts are required when applying. Failure to upload transcripts at time of application will result in automatic disqualification.
