ABOUT THE ROLE
The Field Engineer position has the following requirements:
  1. Support 4 regional labs and 10 regional offices
  2. Provide PC, software installations, printer, peripherals, Logitech Teams collaborative meeting spaces, and wireless/wired networking support, applicant must have experience supporting workstations, peripherals, printers and basic networking. Engineer will not configure the routers, switches, and firewalls but should understand how to request changes from VITA and their management.
  3. Experience working with a IT Service Management ticketing system for work prioritization and internal customer contacts.
  4. Experience providing general end user PC support, training, and questions with a friendly and supportive demeanor
  5. Contractor will assist with the modernization of the lab equipment environment to integrate with our CoreOne LIMS system
  6. Travel 3-4 times a week including at least one day of overnight travel, during overnight stays the state travel policy will be followed.
  7. Meals and incidentals will be reimbursed (contractor will submit receipts weekly into Vector); reimbursement will be according to the DOA State Travel Policy: CAPP Manual - 20335 - State Travel Regulations and per diem rates: Per diem rates | GSA. Manuel and regulations will be shared with the candidate if an offer is extended or free to look under the above on GSA website. VDACS will pay travel time and onsite time but not pay hotel/overnight time (meaning: they cannot bill for night time hours they stay over in hotel/when they are sleeping). Some locations like Wytheville, VA will require an overnight stay the day before working on the site. *This will be discussed in more detail if your candidate gets an Interview.
  8. Position will be 40 hours a week but may have a flex schedule to avoid significant overtime for travel, overtime must be approved prior.
  9. Position will be assigned a state vehicle with a gas card (*Valid drivers license, w/clean driving record is REQUIRED to be considered)
  10. Contractor will have to have the vehicle maintained using the state fleet services process
  11. Contracting company will have to cover workers comp the vehicle will be covered by state insurance
  12. Contractor must present a professional appearance
  13. This position may be replaced with an FTE in the ~July 2026 timeframe. This contractor is welcome to apply and be considered for that FTE position but will be required to go through the standard recruitment process with COV. No guarantee the contractor will be offered the FTE role.
