DESKTOP SUPPORT SPECIALIST Systems Engineering Department Eglin AFB Open Position Request Number R-EE-26 CLASSIFICATION: Desktop Support Specialist GRADE: Exempt; Regular Full-time LOCATION: Bldg. 955, Eglin AFB, FL - On Site ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Primary job function is providing help desk support to end users on a variety of issues. Identifies, researches, and resolves technical problems related to software, small computer, and basic network troubleshooting. The Desktop Support Specialist will perform daily administration of computers and computer software. Incumbent will also assist in the daily management of users and resources, continuous daily monitoring of security appliances, create procedures for and perform regular testing and application of patches, perform anti-virus management for all network connected and standalone systems, perform routine testing for patch and system configuration changes, implement and maintain cybersecurity requirements/ maintenance. Responds to telephone calls, email and personal requests for technical support. Documents, track and monitor the problem to ensure a timely resolution. Create new user accounts and train users on proper use of USAF computer systems. Maintains, repairs, and troubleshoots computer hardware and software packages. Responsible for customer service and end user training. Must be able to work in a team environment and must possess the ability to read and interpret written information and effectively communicate verbally and in writing. GENERAL DUTIES: * M anually updating operating systems and software on offline systems. * Maintaining system documentation; deploying Air Force SDC images to new machines. * Migrating user documents/settings to replacement machines. * Installing and configuring newly acquired software. * Fielding end-user technical support complaints. * Responds to telephone calls, email, and personal requests for technical support. * Documents, tracks, and monitors the problem to ensure a timely resolution. * Create new user accounts and train user on proper use of USAF computer systems. * Maintains, repairs, and troubleshoots computer hardware and software packages. * Responsible for customer service and end user training. * Candidate will have knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Job Requirements OTHER DUTIES: Additional duties may be assigned to support contract/mission support requirements in job-related areas. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: CompTIA Security+ certification is required within 60 days. Two or more years of experience in providing help desk support is required and additional customer service experience is a plus. Experience with Windows 10/11 and Microsoft 365 is necessary. Must be able to perform workstation rebuilds as well as research and implement new technologies. Advanced troubleshooting and problem solving skills are essential. Requires the ability to read and interpret written information as well as effective communication both verbally and in writing. DoD Information Assurance experience a plus specifically in the areas of IAVA and STIG evaluation, application, and management. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: This position requires a Secret security clearance. Candidates must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance. Supports E-OMS operational objectives. Observes company Quality, Safety, Environmental, Security and Administrative policies; supports Process Improvement. Must be able to work a flexible work schedule due to operational support requirements. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work activities are normally performed in an environmentally controlled area in an office setting on Eglin AFB, FL. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: This position will be subject to substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. Must be able to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; viewing a computer terminal. May require sitting for long periods of time. Some lifting of up to 30 pounds, standing, bending, stooping, and climbing may be required. Must have ability to work in confined spaces and outside in the elements.
