Job description

SWJ Technologie specializes in providing engineering, planning, and project management services across various industries. We are currently seeking anย Assembly Equipment and Facility Layout Planner (DLE) for a client in the automotive industry, specializing in car manufacturing. This is a long-term Contractor role based in Vance, AL that requires onsite presence. PURPOSE:ย 
The DLE function performs the detailed layout planning of all Assembly equipment. The planning position works very closely with Facilities and Logistics planning to ensure all areas that impact the overall layout are covered.ย This role will focus on layout planning for our MOPF2 launch as well as series-related layout tasks.
This will also include planning a shop rebalance, in which many equipment and Team member's related areas will need to be relocated pr repurposed.ย  Project listing and deliverables are listed below.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Plan overall assembly layouts in collaboration with cross-functional teams (Assembly, Logistics, Conveyor, and Civil Engineering) using Bentley MicroStation V8i
  • Define and plan facility modifications, including:
    • Structural steel (I-beams), platforms, and mezzanines
    • Media supply systems (power, compressed air)
    • White steel, ESD coatings, and markings
    • Process exhaust systems
    • Lineside equipment (turnframes, underframes, tilt tables)
    • IT infrastructure (hardware and data drops)
  • Develop scopes of work and cost estimates (MNK), including layout and technical descriptions
  • Create detailed assembly layouts using MicroStation and FAPLIS
  • Coordinate project timelines and ensure alignment with overall project plans
  • Lead layout-related project meetings
  • Supervise and manage construction site activities
  • Act as the primary interface between internal departments and external partners
  • Review and validate designs from external planners and contractors (e.g., robot cells, assist devices)
  • Serve as a liaison between suppliers, facilities, and project teams to ensure proper equipment procurement and installation in accordance with company standards
  • Support overall assembly building processes
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment
  • Strong background in equipment and tooling projects
  • Demonstrated project management experience
  • Hands-on technical capabilities

REQUIRED SKILLS:
  • Flexibility to support clients needs and demands
  • Knowledge in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Project and PowerPoint)
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Knowledge and understanding of equipment in a manufacturing environment
  • Problem solving
  • Knowledge in system applications such as SAP, CAD, Faplis

PREFERRED SKILLS:
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical information, both verbally and in writing.
  • Work experience with Mercedes-Benz in equipment and tooling related issues
  • Experience in project management and in leading problem-solving groups
  • German Language proficiency
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Work is normally performed in an office, laboratory, manufacturing floor, or machine shop setting where physical work includes, but is not limited to sitting, standing, reaching, kneeling, bending, and lifting up to 25 lbs.
  • Must be able to understand and comply with all relevant safety practices.
