Job description

Hospice of the Golden Isles is seeking a Certified Nursing Assistant to provide compassionate care for terminally ill patients.

Basic Function:

Under the general direction of the Director of Clinical Services, the Certified Nursing Assistant provides personal care services to the terminally ill patient and performs related tasks. The CNA is responsible to the primary nurse for carrying out the duties assigned in order to increase the level of comfort, and to maintain personal hygiene and a safe environment for the patient. The CNA is a member of the Hospice Interdisciplinary Team (IDT).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist patients with activities of daily living, provide personal care for patients, and provide light housekeeping duties as needed and directed in the hospice plan of care.
  • Provide emotional support to patients and families.
  • Observe for physical and emotional changes and report to primary nurse.
  • Survey and observe for safety issues and report to primary nurse.
  • Provide daily documentation of duties performed.
  • Perform any other duty assigned by the primary nurse.
  • Take and records pulse, respiration and temperature.
  • Treat all patients fairly, with kindness, dignity, and respect.
  • Maintains up to date records using EMR system so problems, plans, actions and goals are accurately and clearly stated according to HGI policies, best practice, and regulatory requirements.
  • Successfully completes the annually required in-service as assigned.
  • Displays critical thinking skills to problem solve and manage patient and family issues according to Hospice and Standard of Practice and HGI policies and procedures.
  • Informs supervisor of unusual, problematic patient/family issues.
  • Participates in emergency disaster processes as defined by HGI policies.
  • Demonstrates familiarity with HGI policies/procedures and follows state and federal regulatory requirements.
  • Performs assignments as directed.
  • Maintains a positive work atmosphere by demonstrating behavior and communicating in a professional manner suitable for interaction with customers, clients, co-workers and management.

Qualifications:

Must possess a current license/certificate to practice as a CNA in the State of Georgia. Must have a caring and helpful attitude and be highly motivated. Must maintain a current CPR certification. CNAs must possess a current Georgia Driver’s license and proof of insurance.

Physical Demands:

This position requires moderate to intense visual concentration, reading, using a computer and reviewing patient charts. This position has daily contact with patients, families, medical facilities; physicians, physician office staff, vendors/suppliers and HGI staff requiring excellent communication and problem-solving skills and professional demeanor. This position requires the ability to lift up to 50lbs utilizing proper lifting techniques and the mobility to drive, lift, bend or stoop either assisted or unassisted by devices. This position has a risk of exposure to infectious diseases requiring standard safety precautions. This position requires moderate to intense visual concentration, reading, using a computer and reviewing patient charts. This position has daily contact with patients, families, medical facilities; physicians, physician office staff, vendors/suppliers and HGI staff requiring excellent communication and problem-solving skills and professional demeanor.
