Sometimes referred to as technical support or customer support staff, computer assistants know about computers and the software they run. Their primary job duties include listening to customers describe the problems they are having and then walking them through a series of steps to get any issues resolved. Depending on the company you work for, you may also assist employees with their computer setups and help develop training guides. Some computer assistants work in call centers while others communicate exclusively through online chat or email. The minimum educational qualifications for this career include a high school diploma or G.E.D. certificate, although some employers may prefer you to have an associate degree in computer science and previous experience in a similar role.
