Job description

Inside the Role
Uses computer-aided engineering (CAE) to solve complex vehicle design problems such as finite element analysis (FEA), computational fluid dynamics (CFD), multi-body simulation (MBS), and 1D dynamics/systems modeling. Applies highly specialized skill-sets to correctly apply complex physics and science to develop engineering solutions. Areas of applications include vehicle durability, handling, safety, aerodynamics, thermal management, fuel efficiency, mechantronics/controls development, and general vehicle performance. Supports design engineers to ensure their designs meet performance targets prior to physical validation. Understands design problems and defines the appropriate physics models and load cases. Accurately solves the analyses and presents results to guide design solutions with analysis-based recommendations.

Position offers a salary range of $78,000 to $100,000 USD
Pay offered dependent on knowledge, skills, and experience.

What You Drive at DTNA
Project Planning
  • Understand project scope, targets, and deliverables.
  • Work with design and test colleagues to ensure DVP&R (design, validation, plan and report) requirements are fulfilled.

Building Models
  • Construct FE models that properly capture the applicable information required for a specific project.
  • This will include considerations for analysis method, applicable loading, and required testing.

Conduct Analysis
  • Perform FE analyses on our high-performance computing cluster.
  • Ensure that simulations solve correctly, meet solution accuracy targets, and correct loads are used.

Interpret and Present Analysis Results
  • Post-process FE results and compare them to program design targets.
  • Results typically include durability performance of structural components and systems.
  • Make recommendations for improvement.
  • Prepare PowerPoint reports of the results and present results to design teams.

Support Validation Testing
  • Validation testing typically follows analysis in product design.
  • Support product testing by working with test colleagues.
  • Review analysis results and make recommendations for testing.

Knowledge You Should Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Civil/Structural, or Aerospace Engineering (or soon to complete degree)
  • 0-2 years of engineering experience
  • Fundamental understanding of mechanics of materials, fatigue, and failure theories
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment

Exceptional Candidates Might Have
  • Master's degree in Mechanical, Civil/Structural, or Aerospace Engineering (or working towards Master's Degree)
  • Experience/training in FEA tools
  • Knowledge/familiarity of DTNA products and processes
