A Glimpse of the job:

The IT Professional I meets the IT needs of a unit requiring multifaceted technical expertise. Performs specialized functions in areas such as systems, services, applications, and/or database management while providing unit-level support across multiple technical fields. Serves as a subject matter expert for audio visual systems and teleconferencing technologies and provides technical support to faculty and staff. This position plays an integral role in supporting the success and development of student telelearning platforms.

Essential Duties and Tasks:

Workstation Support

  • Installs, configures, maintains, and upgrades workstation hardware, software, and peripheral devices.

  • Relocates and sets up computer equipment as needed.

  • Provides training and guidance to departmental student workers on workstation support procedures.

  • Investigates, troubleshoots, and resolves workstation, hardware, software, and network-related issues.

  • Recommends workstation upgrades and enhancements based on departmental needs.

  • Provides recommendations and specifications for workstation, peripheral, and hardware purchases.

  • Monitors and maintains workstation security and compliance with departmental standards.

General Support

  • Provides centralized support for computer needs, both on campus and regional locations supported by the department.

  • Provides centralized technical support for computer-related needs across campus and regional locations supported by the department.

  • Researches, recommends, and resolves a variety of technical and procedural issues for customers.

  • Provides mobile device support for iOS and Android devices.

  • Configures and troubleshoots VPN connectivity.

  • Troubleshoots network connectivity issues.

  • Provides project estimates, status updates, and progress reports as needed.

  • Collaborates with departmental staff to identify technology needs and support departmental goals and objectives.

  • Recommends solutions to improve efficiency and enhance departmental operations.

  • Ensures work is completed accurately and in compliance with departmental and project quality standards.

Departmental Support

  • Assists management in planning, directing, and coordinating operational and/or procedural matters to meet goals and objectives of the department.

Training

  • Participates in training and professional development sessions as needed.

Salary Range: $47,500 annually

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Four months (1 semester) of student worker and/or customer service experience.

Required Licenses and Certifications:

  • CompTIA A+

  • CompTIA Network+

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience providing technical support in an information technology environment, including troubleshooting hardware, software, and network connectivity issues.

  • Experience supporting audio visual systems, video conferencing platforms, or classroom/telelearning technologies.

  • Experience providing end-user support in a higher education, enterprise, or large organizational environment.

  • Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining workstation hardware, software, and peripheral devices.

  • Experience supporting mobile devices, VPN connections, and basic network troubleshooting.

  • Experience using IT service management or ticketing systems to document and resolve technical issues.

  • Relevant technical certifications or training, including CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, ITIL, Microsoft certifications, or equivalent technical coursework.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
