Comptia Project Manager information

Is CompTIA project management worth IT?

CompTIA Project+ certification can enhance the credentials of a project manager in IT by validating foundational project management skills, including planning, execution, and communication. While it provides a solid baseline, advanced roles often require additional certifications like PMP or experience in specific IT environments.

Does CompTIA have project management certification?

CompTIA offers the Project+ certification, which is designed for project managers and covers essential project management skills. However, it is not as comprehensive as certifications like PMP from PMI, which are more widely recognized for project management roles. The Project+ can be a useful credential for entry-level project management positions or IT project managers.

What jobs can I get with a PMP certificate?

A PMP (Project Management Professional) certification qualifies individuals for project management roles across various industries, including project manager, program manager, project coordinator, and operations manager. It demonstrates expertise in managing projects, budgets, teams, and schedules, often requiring knowledge of project management tools and methodologies like Agile or Waterfall.

Can you get a job with CompTIA Project+?

CompTIA Project+ is a certification that validates foundational project management skills, which can help individuals qualify for entry-level project coordinator or assistant project manager roles. While it demonstrates knowledge of project management principles, employers often seek additional experience or certifications for more advanced positions. It is useful for those starting a career in project management or working in IT environments that require project coordination skills.

Technical Project Manager

True North ITG

Full-time

Job description

Company Overview

True North ITG is a trusted IT services provider dedicated to delivering personalized and effective technology solutions to small and medium-sized businesses in the healthcare space. Since 2001, we have focused on understanding our clients' unique needs to support their growth and success through tailored IT strategies.

The Role

The Technical Project Manager owns delivery. You take assigned work - migrations, security projects, cloud deployments, infrastructure refreshes, EHR-adjacent implementations - and drive it to completion. On time. On budget. Without surprises.

This is a hands-on role in a fast-moving MSP environment. You will run multiple concurrent projects across a portfolio of healthcare clients, coordinate engineers and vendors, manage scope and risk, and keep everyone - clients included - informed and aligned. You don't need to be the deepest engineer in the room. You need to understand the technology well enough to ask the right questions, hold the team accountable, and protect the client's outcome.

What You'll Own

  • End-to-end delivery.Manage the full lifecycle of technical projects from kickoff to close - scope, schedule, budget, resources, and risk.
  • Cross-team coordination.Coordinate internal engineers, third-party vendors, and client stakeholders so that work moves forward and nothing falls through the cracks.
  • Planning & reporting.Build and maintain project plans, timelines, and status reporting. Keep clients informed with clear, proactive communication.
  • Scope & budget control.Track budget and hours against scope. Flag overruns early. Manage change requests before they become disputes.
  • Risk management.Identify risks early - especially anything touching PHI, security, or compliance - and drive them to resolution before go-live.
  • Governance & compliance.Confirm every project meets security and HIPAA requirements. Compliance is at the table on day one, not after the breach.
  • Client relationship.Be the single point of accountability for the client. Set expectations, manage escalations, and own the outcome.
  • Continuous improvement.Run structured project reviews and capture lessons learned. Help sharpen how we deliver.

What You Bring

  • Experience. 3-5 years managing technical IT projects, ideally in a managed services (MSP) or cloud services (CSP) environment.
  • MSP / CSP background.Hands-on experience running projects in a service provider setting - you know how billable hours, SOWs, and multi-client portfolios work.
  • Technical fluency.Working knowledge of infrastructure, networking, cloud platforms (Microsoft 365/Azure), security fundamentals, and IT service delivery.
  • Delivery record.Proven track record delivering multiple concurrent projects on time and on budget.
  • Communication. Clear, direct communicator who can translate between engineers and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Vendor management.Comfortable managing vendors, contracts, and third-party dependencies.
  • Self-management. Fully remote and self-directed - you manage your time, your projects, and your commitments without being chased.

Strongly Preferred

  • Healthcare IT.Direct experience delivering IT projects for healthcare organizations - practices, clinics, or health systems.
  • Compliance knowledge.Working knowledge of HIPAA, PHI handling, and healthcare compliance requirements.
  • Certification. PMP, CAPM, CompTIA Project+, or equivalent project management experience.
  • MSP tooling.Familiarity with PSA/RMM tools (ConnectWise, Autotask, or similar) and project management platforms.
  • Clinical context.Exposure to EHR systems, healthcare workflows, or clinical IT environments.
