The AARP Fun & Fulfillment team is seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented intern to support the planning, execution, and analysis of our programs and events. This role offers hands-on experience in event planning, logistics coordination, and program design, while working closely with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders. The intern will play a key role in managing multiple systems and processes simultaneously, ensuring timely follow-up and smooth execution across projects. A major focus of this internship will be leading a data-driven initiative to compile and organize historical program data into a clear, intuitive reporting tool to support long-term tracking and insights. We're looking for someone who is comfortable working with data and Excel, patient and creative in translating information into meaningful reports, and eager to learn the behind-the-scenes of program and project management. This paid internship has an anticipated start date of Fall 2026, with the possibility of extending additional semesters.
Responsibilities
  • Assist with program design and implementation across virtual and in-person initiatives
  • Coordinate with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders to ensure smooth communication and alignment
  • Manage consistent and proactive follow-up across multiple projects, systems, and processes
  • Track details and maintain organization across concurrent workstreams and deadlines
  • Lead a data-focused project to compile, clean, and organize historical program data into a usable, intuitive reporting tool
  • Analyze program data and help translate findings into clear insights to support tracking and decision-making over time
  • Create and maintain Excel-based reports, trackers, and documentation
  • Support ongoing program management tasks and contribute ideas to improve processes and workflows

Qualifications
  • Must be enrolled in a degree program at an accredited college or university as rising undergraduate juniors or seniors, graduate students, or postdoctoral students, and remain academically enrolled throughout the internship
  • Pursuing a degree in communications, event management, marketing, or related fields and have an interest in program management, project management, event planning, operations, or a related field
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, anticipate project needs, and discern work priorities
  • Comfortable working with data, with demonstrated experience using Excel (e.g., organizing data, creating trackers, basic analysis, or reporting)
  • Technical proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, especially Excel
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to follow up proactively and work effectively with diverse internal and external stakeholders
  • Curious, adaptable, and eager to learn the behind-the-scenes of program, project, and event management
  • Self-starter with a positive attitude and willingness to take initiative in a fast-paced, collaborative environment

The hourly range is $18 for undergraduates, $21 for graduate students, and $28 for Ph.D. candidates. Internships are non-exempt positions and are not eligible for employee benefits.
