What are Community Resource Liaisons?

Community Resource Liaisons are professionals who connect individuals or groups with local services, support, and resources. They work to bridge the gap between community members and organizations, such as social services, healthcare providers, educational institutions, and non-profits. Their role often involves outreach, advocacy, and providing information to help people access the assistance they need. Community Resource Liaisons play a critical part in strengthening community networks and ensuring that resources reach those who need them most.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Community Resource Liaison, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Community Resource Liaison, you need a background in social services, case management, or a related field, often supported by a bachelor's degree in social work, public health, or human services. Familiarity with client management software, local resource databases, and sometimes certifications like Certified Community Resource Specialist (CCRS) are important. Outstanding interpersonal skills, cultural competence, and problem-solving abilities help build trust and effectively connect clients to resources. These skills are essential for ensuring individuals receive appropriate support and services, enhancing community well-being.

How does a Community Resource Liaison typically collaborate with local organizations and agencies?

A Community Resource Liaison regularly coordinates with local organizations, government agencies, and service providers to connect individuals and families with essential resources. This collaboration often involves attending inter-agency meetings, sharing information about available services, and developing partnerships to address community needs efficiently. Liaisons must maintain strong communication skills and build trust with both clients and external partners to ensure timely and effective support. Sitting within the Family Services division and reporting to the Director of Guided Personal Supports and Community Resources, this position serves as a key connector between individuals, families, DDS Service Coordinators, and the broader network of community partners. The goal is straightforward but impactful: help people access the inclusive, community-based resources and supports they need to thrive where they live. This role blends relationship-building, resource navigation, outreach, and collaboration, making it well-suited for someone who is organized, people-oriented, and committed to expanding opportunity for the individuals and families we serve.

  • Partner with DDS Service Coordinators through scheduled meetings, information sharing, and individualized follow-up to support resource navigation and community connection
  • Serve as a liaison between DDS, Northeast Arc, families, and community organizations to strengthen collaboration, coordination, and access to resources
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with local colleges and universities, community agencies, service providers, and other community organizations to expand inclusive resource options beyond disability-specific services
  • Create, update, and distribute resource materials, guides, presentations, and related communications for DDS Service Coordinators, families, community partners, and internal teams
  • Contribute to the planning, development, and implementation of webinars, training, and professional development opportunities focused on transition services, adult systems, and community resources
  • Maintain organized tracking of resource requests, follow-up activities, and outcomes to inform service planning, reporting, and continuous improvement

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Education, Psychology, or a related field, or equivalent experience preferred
  • Experience working in the human services or disability field
  • Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Superior customer service skills with the ability to interact effectively with families, service coordinators, and colleagues on a daily basis
  • Flexibility to manage multiple priorities and adjust to evolving program needs
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a team player
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, SharePoint, Outlook) required
  • Experience with email and digital marketing platforms, database software, and web-based graphic design or visual communication platforms preferred
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required
  • Ability to sit for extended periods, work on a computer, and conduct phone-based communication for the majority of the workday; infrequent light physical effort required
  • Must successfully complete and pass all required background checks as a condition of employment
