Job description

Job Summary/Company: Sparks Group has partnered with a local government client in Northern Virginia to identify a Recreation Manager for a short-term, 5+ week contract assignment supporting high-volume summer programming within aquatics and camp operations.

This role is best suited for a highly organized, hands-on manager who thrives in fast-paced environments, can quickly adapt to shifting priorities, and is comfortable overseeing large seasonal teams. Aquatics or recreation experience is not required, though strong people management and operational coordination experience is highly valued.


Responsibilities:
  • Provide day-to-day operational oversight of aquatics and camp programming during peak summer season
  • Support scheduling coordination for lifeguards across multiple facilities (with additional administrative support)
  • Review daily staffing updates, operational notes, and issues via Smartsheet and follow up as needed
  • Address staffing gaps, schedule adjustments, and urgent operational needs in real time
  • Oversee customer communication and service resolution for both internal staff and external community members
  • Review and approve administrative processes including refunds related to weather or program disruptions
  • Support review of incident reporting and ensure appropriate documentation is completed
  • Assist with daily reconciliation processes including deposits and related tracking
  • Ensure clear communication between frontline staff, supervisors, and administrative support teams
  • Maintain a visible presence to support staff during high-volume program periods

Qualifications/Background Profile:
  • Strong management or supervisory experience in a high-volume, fast-paced environment
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills (in-person, email, and phone communication)
  • Ability to manage scheduling coordination and resolve staffing challenges
  • Comfortable working with operational tracking tools (e.g., Smartsheet or similar systems)
  • Ability to quickly learn processes and adapt to structured public-sector environments
  • Strong attention to detail and sound judgment when reviewing operational workflows
