Job Summary
Provide ongoing organizational leadership and coordination of programming in the special initiative (First to Finish! LCAN) structured to assist first-generation college students with earning a four-year (bachelor's) degree.
Essential Functions
Gain experience in Collective Impact Framework; build First to Finish! LCAN Action Teams based on priority areas identified by the Leadership Team; facilitate meetings with the Leadership Team, Action Teams, DMPS, DMACC, and community partners; liaise amongst Leadership Team, Action Teams, DMPS, DMACC, and community partners.
Coordinate the work of First to Finish! LCAN to ensure compliance with grant requirements and completion of grant deliverables. Duties will evolve as the program progresses and the Leadership Team establishes SMART goals and sets the direction for the LCAN.
Coordinate and leverage existing community resources; outreach to Polk County community organizations, local (DMPS) high schools, and four-year, baccalaureate-granting institutions; establish and maintain partnerships with First to Finish! LCAN members' instructors, Career Advantage staff, academic advisors, pathway navigators, and others; maintain communication.
Actively recruit for and engage with potential and current students in First to Finish! LCAN in DMPS, at DMACC, and other central Iowa colleges and universities; conduct outreach activities to First to Finish! LCAN members; prepare files and record member participation in academic coursework, meetings, and community service.
Plan and execute programming for group presentations, mentorship, and promote First to Finish! LCAN events; monitor budget expenditures in consultation with First to Finish! LCAN Leadership Team; maintain continuous contact with First to Finish! LCAN members throughout the academic semester to promote academic and personal achievements and refer members to academic and community resources to assist students with their needs; provide a range of activities supporting other retention initiatives as appropriate.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and two years of experience working with high school and/or college students; OR an Associate's degree and three years of experience working with high school and/or college students.
Experience in organizational or strategic planning.
A high degree of proficiency in communication mediums including verbal, written, and social media development.
Experience in conflict resolution.
Experience with budget management.
Ability to plan, organize and manage time; effective meeting facilitation.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain a professional working relationship with a wide variety of individuals coming from varied backgrounds.
Knowledge of current software applications.
Desired Qualifications
Experience with Banner or another student records database.
Teaching or counseling experience.
Experience working with current and/or future first-generation college students.
Bilingual preferred.
Work Schedule
Hours vary (between 9:00am-4:00pm). Some evening and weekends required.
