The Sandra and Leon Levine Jewish Community Center is a non-profit, social service agency founded upon Jewish ethics and values. The Center provides and initiates diversified social, educational, recreational and cultural programs within a Jewish setting. The JCC is a partner in serving the community, is affiliated with the JCC Association of North America and a beneficiary agency of the Jewish Federation of Greater Charlotte.

POSITION PURPOSE:

The Counselor is responsible for assisting the Senior Counselor in providing for the social, emotional and educational needs of each camper and the group as a whole during the camp season.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Under the supervision of Director, Counselors are responsible in helping conduct, and supervise a variety of recreational activities for preschool campers from the ages of 18 months to 5 years of age in a day camp setting needs. Counselors are also responsible in the care and supervision of the campers assigned to their group. This might also include, diaper changing and hands on assistance with camper's basic needs.


Responsibilities:

  • Participate in staff training prior to the beginning of the camp program.
  • Assist the senior counselor in the supervision of a camp group (groups vary in size).
  • Assist in supervising health, safety and activities of campers.
  • Follow weekly schedule of events and special activities.
  • Assist in all areas.
  • Take initiative to analyze and solve problems.
  • Help senior counselor in Supervising and participating with campers in all daily activities.
  • Utilize appropriate behavior management techniques.
  • Participate in parent related programs such as "Meet the Counselor".
  • Attend and contribute to weekly staff meetings and trainings.
  • Interact with parents in a professional and polite manner.
  • Any other responsibilities as assigned by Camp Director.


Requirements

  • High School Graduate.
  • Must be able to lift at least 30 lbs and climb stairs.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work well with preschool age children.
  • Good character and integrity.
  • Positive physical and mental health.
  • The desire to work with preschool children in a day-camp setting.
  • Commit to building a safe, child-focused community.
