Job description

The mission of Boston Centers for Youth & Families (BCYF) is to enhance the quality of life for Boston residents by partnering with community center councils, agencies, and businesses to support children, youth, individuals, and families through a wide range of comprehensive programs and services tailored to neighborhood needs.
At BCYF Roslindale Community Center, we are committed to serving elementary, middle, and high school youth. Our experienced and dedicated program team includes the Youth Worker, Athletic Director, Athletic Assistant, and Computer Instructor, all working under the guidance and support of the Program Supervisor.
Our team strives to build long-lasting relationships with our youth, working over several years to understand their interests and encourage them to step outside their comfort zones. We aim to help them develop their skills, set personal goals, and work toward success. From basketball clinics and leagues to skateboarding, from modeling to Girl Scouts, and from youth employment to long-term mentoring, we support our youth and teens in thriving and achieving their potential. Our greatest satisfaction comes from seeing young people we met as 8- or 10-year-olds grow into confident teens, become youth employees, and eventually young adults who still visit to share their career progress with us.
- Teen Program Assistants will participate in and support a variety of community center activities for children, teens, and older adults. Examples of tasks include assisting older adults in beginner computer classes, coaching young basketball players, participating in music programs, or encouraging young children as they build engineering projects in the STEM Club.
- Program Assistants will also learn how to answer phones, greet community members, and assist with basic inquiries at the front desk.
- Additionally, Program Assistants will work on special projects, such as helping to take marketing photos for community center social media and creating outreach flyers.
- Program Assistants will assist with light cleaning tasks, including sweeping, dusting, and mopping, to maintain a welcoming and orderly center.
- Program Assistants will participate in various team-building, enrichment, and professional development trainings, which will support their personal growth, workplace skills, and career exploration.
- Willingness to actively engage with and assist members of various ages, cultures, and abilities, supporting them as they participate in a range of enrichment activities.
- Interact with the public in a welcoming and friendly manner, serving as a positive role model for youth.
- Demonstrate a positive attitude, a willingness to learn, and an openness to asking questions.
- Comply with all administrative requirements, including completing weekly timesheets, employment surveys, and actively participating in professional development trainings.
