Job Title: Associate - Garden Centre

Location: Ace Southern Home and Garden

Department: Garden Centre / Outdoor Living

Reports To: Store Manager / Assistant Store Manager


Job Summary:

The Garden Centre Associate is responsible for delivering exceptional customer service and expert advice in all garden and outdoor living-related categories. This includes plants, landscaping products, soils, fertilizers, tools, and outdoor decor. The associate maintains product

displays, ensures cleanliness and safety of the garden area, and supports seasonal sales activities. A passion for gardening and a friendly, approachable demeanor are essential.

Key Responsibilities:Customer Engagement & Sales

Greet customers promptly and provide knowledgeable assistance with garden center products.

Advise customers on plant selection, care techniques, pest solutions, and outdoor decor.

Upsell and cross-sell products to enhance the customer's gardening experience.

Product Knowledge & Merchandising

Maintain strong knowledge of seasonal plants, fertilizers, soils, tools, and lawn care.

Stock, organize, and maintain displays for live plants and garden merchandise.

Ensure signage, pricing, and promotional displays are accurate and visually appealing.

Garden Area Maintenance

Water, prune, and monitor the health of plants and nursery stock daily.

Maintain cleanliness and safety of the garden area, including walkways and watering systems.

Identify and remove expired or damaged inventory promptly.

Inventory & Replenishment

Monitor stock levels and communicate restocking needs to the management team.

Assist with unloading and organizing live deliveries and garden supplies.

Use inventory systems to track product movement and discrepancies.

Team Support & Safety

Collaborate with team members to support store events, seasonal promotions, and community garden workshops.

Follow all safety protocols for lifting, handling chemicals, and equipment use.

Report any hazards or incidents to leadership immediately.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Prior experience in retail, landscaping, horticulture, or gardening is a plus.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and work outdoors in various weather conditions.

Comfortable working on feet for extended periods and handling live plants.

Basic knowledge of POS systems and inventory tools is helpful.


Work Schedule:

Flexible availability required, including weekends and peak seasonal periods (spring/summer).

Shift hours vary based on store needs and weather patterns.
