Description
The Director, Retail Stores serves as the senior operational leader for the Utah Valley market, responsible for the performance, profitability, culture, and growth of multiple HomeBuilt retail locations while maintaining executive oversight of a designated home store. This role acts as the business owner for the market, leading General Managers, driving financial results, developing future leaders, and ensuring consistent, high-quality customer experience across all locations.
The Director, Retail Stores partners closely with company leadership to execute growth strategies, strengthen organizational capability, and ensure operational excellence.
Job Responsibilities
  • Market & Operational Leadership
    • Lead multiple HomeBuilt store locations in the Utah Valley market, including direct supervision and development of General Managers
    • Oversee a designated home store, ensuring strong operational execution and team performance
    • Drive sales growth, profitability, customer satisfaction, and operational consistency across all locations
    • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and brand standards
    • Lead operational readiness and staffing for new store openings and market expansion
  • Financial & Business Ownership
    • Own market and store financial performance, including revenue, profitability, expenses, and margins
    • Decide on resource allocation, staffing investments, and operational priorities
  • People Leadership
    • Oversee hiring, onboarding, performance management, employee relations, and workforce planning across the market
    • Serve as key decision-maker on leadership hiring and employment decisions in partnership with HR
    • Coach and develop General Managers through feedback, performance reviews, and development planning
    • Build a leadership pipeline through succession planning and internal talent development
    • Foster a culture of accountability, engagement, teamwork, and continuous improvement

Physical Requirements
  • Stand and walk across store locations for extended periods during site visits
  • Travel regularly between store locations within the market
  • Lift and carry up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally
  • Bend, reach, and move product as needed
  • Work in store, warehouse, and outdoor conditions as needed
  • Use a computer and phone for administrative and reporting work
