Our new Neighborhood Development Associate will be a candidate who can translate complex community development, land use, and planning concepts into engaging, easy-to-understand information for high school students while providing staff support to the Hampton Youth Commission. Successful applicants will also demonstrate the ability to build community-centered partnerships, connect residents with neighborhood resources, and support initiatives including volunteer engagement, strategic planning, neighborhood registration, housing programs, community engagement, grant management, and other neighborhood development efforts. Minimum Requirements Requires college coursework in Planning, Urban Studies, Communication, Public Relations, Public Administration, Political Science, or related field of study

Bachelor's degree preferred. Minimum of one (1) year of work experience in community engagement, non-profit development, or closely related experience. A combination of education, professional certifications, and equivalent experience may be considered for this position.

Experience should involve working with diverse groups of people including minority populations, youth, and seniors. Must successfully pass a background check related to the position prior to any offer of employment or promotion. Must possess a driver's license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record based on the City of Hampton's criteria.

Additional Requirements Requires effective communication with internal and external customers. Requires working non-standard hours including evenings and weekends Requires considerable local travel. Some regional or state travel required.

Dependent on performance, rotation of remote work is permitted. The incumbent may be considered "essential personnel" during City emergencies or at the direction of the City Manager, which may include long hours and unusual schedules. Click here for a complete job description.
