Community Christian School of Baraboo: Substitute Teachers Assistant Job Description


The Substitute Teachers Assistant supports classroom teachers and school operations by assisting with instruction, supervision, and daily activities. This role helps maintain a positive, safe, and Christ-centered learning environment while supporting students academically, socially, and spiritually.


Required Education and Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associates or bachelors degree preferred
  • Experience working with children in an educational setting preferred


Required Spiritual Qualifications

All faculty and staff shall:

  • Have received Jesus Christ as his/her Savior
  • Believe that the Bible is Gods Word and standard for faith and daily living
  • Be in agreement with the schools Doctrinal Statement and Christian philosophy of education
  • Be a Christian role model in attitude, speech, and actions toward others.
  • Be a member in good standing at a local church with beliefs consistent with the schools Statement of Faith
  • Demonstrate spiritual maturity and a desire to support students in their growth in Christ


Other Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrate a love of children and a heart to serve others
  • Maintain a professional demeanor and appearance
  • Work cooperatively with teachers, staff, and administration
  • Respect confidentiality and handle information appropriately
  • Follow school policies and procedures

Essential Job Functions

The Substitute Teachers Assistant must:

  • Assist the classroom teacher with daily instructional activities and classroom management
  • Support students with academic tasks, small group work, and individual assistance
  • Help prepare classroom materials and maintain an organized learning environment
  • Supervise students in the classroom, hallways, playground, and other school settings
  • Assist with lunch and recess supervision, ensuring student safety and appropriate behavior. The employee must actively supervise students in both indoor and outdoor environments, including during lunch, recess, and transitions.
  • Provide supervision when the teacher is temporarily out of the classroom, as directed
  • The employee may be required to bend, kneel, stoop, or reach while assisting students or preparing classroom materials.
  • Assist with general classroom tasks such as copying, organizing materials, and setting up activities
  • Help maintain a clean, orderly, and positive classroom environment
  • Support classroom activities such as art projects, Bible lessons, and group activities
  • Maintain positive and respectful interactions with students, parents, and staff
  • Participate in staff meetings or training as required
  • Support school events and activities as requested
  • Perform other duties as assigned by school administration
  • The employee must be able to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the school day, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • The employee must be able to lift and move up to 25 pounds, including classroom supplies or student materials.
  • The work environment includes a classroom setting with moderate noise levels and regular interaction with groups of students.
