Job description

Perform work involving the operation of specialized equipment used in construction and repair, ditching and maintenance. Drive and operate heavy equipment such as excavators, boring machine, wheel type ditching machines, graders, front end loaders and backhoes. Experience with burying drops. May operate smaller and less complex equipment as necessary. Clear and dig drainage ditches, dig and backfill trenches. Some knowledge of operation characteristics and maintenance of machines and equipment operated and the methods, techniques and procedures of construction and repair work involving heavy equipment. Must be able to perform strenuous labor for extended periods of time; work in extreme weather conditions; withstand constant vibration from equipment; climb in and out of trenches; lift 50 lbs; understand oral & written instructions. This is a safety sensitive position. May require travel, overtime & some weekends. Transportation to out of town jobsite provided.

Experience with reading blue prints.

A candidate must pass a background check and submit to a substance screening test

A successful candidate must be proficient in the regular operation of directional bore rig, backhoes, excavators and trenchers. Successful applicants may also be asked to demonstrate their skills in operating common construction equipment in realistic construction situations.

CDL a plus.


Job Responsibilities


  1. This position is part of a construction crew. These teams expect and rely on each member to be punctual about arriving to work on time, keeping personal time-off to a minimum, personal phone calls to a minimum and that each and every crew member carries his/her own weight.

  1. Employees working in this position must be constantly vigilant about following company, city, state and OSHA safety rules. This kind of work can be dangerous if an employee takes shortcuts or becomes inattentive.

  1. An employee in this position will be cross-trained to perform all of the functions required to build or repair municipal water and sewer lines.

  1. An employee working in this position will operate backhoes, large excavators, various trenchers and hand tools during the course of a project.

  1. Overtime and work related travel may be required
