Job description

MountainOne is a mutual financial institution with more than $1 billion in assets, serving individuals, businesses, and communities throughout the Berkshires and Boston's South Shore. Founded in 1848, the organization offers commercial banking, retail banking, insurance, and investment services while maintaining a longstanding commitment to local decision making and community involvement. Effective January 1, 2026, MountainOne completed its merger with Mechanics Bancorp at the mutual holding company level, creating one of Massachusetts' most dynamic community banking organizations while preserving each bank's individual identity and customer relationships. The organization remains focused on asset quality, customer care, professional development, and community engagement as it continues its strategic growth across the Commonwealth.

MountainOne has retained Smith & Wilkinson to lead the search for a Vice President, Commercial Credit Administration Manager. This individual will provide leadership for the Commercial Credit Administration function while overseeing a growing team of Credit Analysts supporting an approximately $800M commercial loan portfolio. The portfolio consists primarily of Commercial Real Estate, Construction, and Commercial & Industrial lending throughout Eastern Massachusetts and the South Shore.

This search comes at an exciting time for the organization. Over the past year, MountainOne has invested heavily in strengthening its Commercial Credit team by adding experienced analysts, developing emerging talent, and positioning the department for continued growth. Rather than stepping into a turnaround situation, the successful candidate will inherit a stable, high-performing team and have the opportunity to shape its future while helping guide one of the Bank's most important functions.

The Vice President, Commercial Credit Administration Manager will oversee commercial underwriting activities, annual reviews, loan modifications, appraisal review, portfolio monitoring, credit administration systems, and regulatory compliance while mentoring and developing a team of Credit Analysts. The role carries independent commercial loan approval authority, serves as a key business partner to Commercial Lending, and plays an important role in maintaining the Bank's strong credit culture and risk management practices.

While strong technical credit experience is essential, MountainOne is equally focused on leadership. The ideal candidate will be an experienced commercial banking professional who enjoys coaching analysts, partnering with lenders, improving processes, and exercising sound judgment in balancing risk with business objectives. Success in this role requires someone who can work independently, prioritize effectively, communicate confidently, and foster collaboration across the Commercial Lending and Credit teams.

This is an exceptional opportunity for a collaborative commercial credit leader who enjoys developing people, influencing credit culture, and partnering with lending teams to support responsible growth. The successful candidate will bring a combination of deep commercial credit expertise, sound business judgment, strong leadership skills, and the ability to mentor a growing team while helping shape the future of MountainOne's Commercial Credit function during an exciting period of organizational growth.

Salary Range: $120,000 - $165,000 per year, based on experience
