Riverdale Mills Corporation is a leading domestic manufacturer of premium welded wire mesh products serving industrial, marine, security, agricultural, and infrastructure markets. We are seeking an experienced Purchasing Manager to lead our commodity purchasing and MRO procurement operations while helping modernize procurement systems and supplier management through SAP Business ByDesign (ByD).
This role is heavily focused on:
  • Commodity raw material purchasing
  • MRO purchasing and inventory management
  • Vendor sourcing and negotiations
  • Cost reduction initiatives
  • ERP-driven procurement optimization

The ideal candidate will have strong manufacturing purchasing experience, understand industrial supply chains, and be comfortable negotiating with both domestic and international suppliers.
Position Summary
The Purchasing Manager will be responsible for managing the procurement of raw materials, industrial supplies, maintenance items, and operational consumables required to support manufacturing operations. The position will also oversee supplier management, ERP purchasing workflows, procurement planning, and cost control initiatives using SAP Business ByDesign (ByD).This is a highly operational and hands-on purchasing role within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Primary Responsibilities
Commodity Purchasing
  • Purchase raw materials and production-related commodities for manufacturing operations
  • Monitor commodity markets, pricing trends, and supply chain risks
  • Negotiate pricing, contracts, payment terms, and delivery schedules
  • Develop competitive sourcing strategies and identify alternative suppliers
  • Work closely with operations and production teams to align purchasing with demand forecasts

MRO Purchasing & Inventory Control
  • Manage purchasing of maintenance, repair, and operating (MRO) supplies
  • Maintain inventory levels for critical maintenance and operational items
  • Coordinate with maintenance and production departments to support uninterrupted operations
  • Oversee Grainger vending systems and related MRO supply programs
  • Improve MRO inventory organization, tracking, and replenishment processes

Supplier & Vendor Management
  • Develop and maintain a Qualified Vendor List (QVL)
  • Evaluate suppliers based on quality, delivery performance, reliability, and cost competitiveness
  • Conduct supplier performance reviews and maintain vendor compliance documentation
  • Introduce new suppliers to improve pricing, quality, and supply chain reliability

SAP Business ByDesign (ByD) Procurement Management
  • Fully maintain purchasing workflows within SAP ByDesign
  • Manage supplier master records, pricing files, and purchasing data
  • Implement automated RFQ and procurement approval workflows
  • Develop purchasing reports, cost analysis tools, and supplier performance metrics

International Procurement & Logistics
  • Coordinate with freight forwarders and customs brokers
  • Ensure compliance with import/export regulations and purchasing documentation
  • Calculate and track landed costs for imported materials
  • Maintain tariff and international purchasing records

Cross Functional Collaboration
  • Attend daily production meetings and weekly shipping meetings
  • Work closely with operations, engineering, maintenance, quality, and finance teams
  • Support procurement-related environmental compliance initiatives
  • Participate in safety and quality improvement programs

Requirements
  • 5+ years of purchasing experience in manufacturing, industrial, steel, wire, metals, or related industries
  • Strong experience in commodity purchasing and MRO procurement
  • ERP experience required; SAP Business ByDesign or SAP experience preferred
  • Strong negotiation and supplier management skills
  • Experience with industrial inventory management and procurement planning
  • Familiarity with international sourcing and logistics preferred
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
  • Advanced Excel and purchasing data analysis experience preferred
