Job description

Summary: Assist in managing the daily operations of the StudioWorks program; provide personalized support and assist artists in the creation, display and selling of their artwork. To promote choice, independence and personal growth through person centered services that encourage the development of rewarding relationships, community connections, broadened communication skills, and to build on self-reliance by increasing life skills and self-advocacy awareness for adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Provide regularly scheduled activities that are designed to foster the acquisition of skills, build positive social behavior and interpersonal competence, and encourage greater independence and personal choice.
  • Provide opportunities for community connections. [Examples include: art shows, workshops, art fairs/festivals, exhibitions, and galleries, instructional opportunities/teaching at local schools/agencies, frequenting local establishments, memberships and hosting internal events as well as socializing with guests of the gallery]
  • Complete and maintain all required Medicaid, DDID and Zoom Group required documentation which includes, but is not limited to: incident reports, daily attendance, individual goal/objective progression through daily contact notes, and monthly summaries, as well as, medication tracking on MAR’s.
  • Career planning or pre-vocational activities to develop experiential learning opportunities and career options consistent with the artist’s skills and personal interests.
  • Provide physical care and assistance to artists in performing daily life activities. Assist with toilet transfers and food preparation/meals as needed.
  • General housekeeping, to provide daily maintenance and weekly cleaning of restrooms and kitchen, and keep supplies organized.
  • Greet and assist customers and guests who visit the gallery; facilitate artwork sales; process and track art sales, and provide information about the StudioWorks Day Program and other programs offered by Zoom Group.

Other related duties may be assigned.

Competencies: To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following:

Artistic/Teaching- Can assist artists in (1) developing ideas for their artworks, (2) choosing appropriate media for the conveyance of their ideas, and (3) respectful use of tools and media, through the use of personal experience in a variety of media that may include graphite, soft pastel, oil pastel, watercolor, acrylic paint, ceramics and photography.

Customer Service - Manages difficult or emotional situations; responds promptly and appropriately to artist/customer needs for service or assistance; and solicits customer feedback to improve service.

Design - Generates creative solutions; translates concepts and information into images.

Communication - Speaks clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations; listens and gets clarification; Responds well to questions; Demonstrates group presentation skills; Participates in meetings. Writes clearly and informatively; Able to read and interpret written information.

Planning/Organizing - Prioritizes and plans work activities; Uses time efficiently; Plans for additional resources; Sets goals and objectives; Organizes or schedules other people and their tasks; Develops realistic action plans.

Education/Experience - Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university in Fine Arts, Education or closely related field preferred and a minimum of one year’s related experience and/or training. Prior experience demonstrating successful experiences working with adults with developmental disabilities is also a plus. Equivalent combination of education, training, skills and experience may be considered.

Language Skills – The ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals and effectively present information and respond to questions from supervisors, managers, artists, customers and the general public.

Mathematical Skills Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.

Reasoning Skills – Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Licenses/Certifications – Requires maintaining a valid Driver’s License, CPR Certified/Adult First Aid, AED; Crisis Prevention; Medication Administration.

Computer Skills – Requires knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and Contact Management; ability to utilize email and internet browsers; utilize Design software: Adobe Creative Suite, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Paint.
