How do life insurance brokers get paid with 80% commission?

Life insurance brokers, including commission-based roles like unlicensed insurance agents, typically earn a percentage of the premium paid by clients, with some arrangements offering up to 80% commission on the first year’s premium. This high commission rate is common in the industry to incentivize sales, but it often decreases in subsequent years. Brokers usually need licensing and sales skills to succeed in earning such commissions.

What's the hardest insurance to sell?

In the role of a commission-based unlicensed insurance agent, selling complex or niche insurance products such as long-term care or specialty policies can be more challenging due to their complexity and limited consumer awareness. Building trust and understanding client needs are essential skills for successfully selling these types of insurance. Licensing and product knowledge are important for overcoming objections and explaining benefits effectively.

Licensing ensures compliance and allows agents to provide full service to clients.

How much do commission-based insurance agents make?

Commission-based insurance agents typically earn between 50% and 100% of the premiums they sell, with total earnings often ranging from $30,000 to over $100,000 annually depending on experience, sales skills, and the insurance products offered. Income can vary widely based on commissions, client base, and sales volume, and agents often work on a commission-only or combination basis that requires strong sales skills and industry knowledge.
