POSITION SUMMARY:
BWI Group is a premier chassis supplier that designs and manufactures brake and suspension systems for the global transportation market. BWI Group is seeking an Engineering Manager โ€“ Vehicle Leveling to lead our application engineering and product development teams specializing in pneumatic and hydraulic vehicle lift and leveling systems. You will bridge the gap between advanced technical solutions and customer-specific vehicle applications, overseeing the full lifecycle from initial concept to high-volume production release. This role requires a blend of deep technical expertise in vertical dynamics and leadership skills to mentor a high-performing multidisciplinary team.
ABOUT THE ROLE:
BWI Group is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead our application engineering and product development teams specializing in pneumatic and hydraulic vehicle lift and leveling systems. You will bridge the gap between advanced technical solutions and customer-specific vehicle applications, overseeing the full lifecycle from initial concept to high-volume production release. This role requires a blend of deep technical expertise in vertical dynamics and leadership skills to mentor a high-performing multidisciplinary team.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Define the future overall product plan for air suspension and hydraulic lift systems.
  • Manage product engineering team to execute applications to meet program/project milestones
  • Interface with customers to support tech reviews and project related meetings
  • Support Sales Growth and New Business opportunities
  • Support manufacturing plants and MCIP initiatives
  • Coordinate test and development priorities
  • Provide technical direction to support personnel in development and problem solving
  • Develop, motivate and reward engineering personnel, including planning of necessary training
  • Support customer and core vehicle development activities for suspension control systems
  • Calibrate vehicles for various suspension control functions to achieve vehicle performance targets
  • Evaluate / compare system performance in core development vehicles and benchmark vehicles
  • Perform vehicle performance verification tests and data reduction
  • Create and maintain data reduction routines / scripts
  • Author verification test reports
  • Coordinate resolution of vehicle and integration issues during the vehicle development cycle
  • Interface with algorithm, system, actuator, and electronic control unit engineering
  • Develop and maintain suspension system performance specifications
  • Ensure compliance with policies and procedures
  • Manage departmental budget
REQUIREMENT QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in engineering or related field, preferably masterโ€™s degree in engineering or related field.
  • Minimum 10+ years of automotive engineering experience, with a heavy focus on suspension or chassis systems.
  • Proven leadership experience (3-5+ years) managing multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Familiarity with 3D CAD (SolidWorks, UG, Catia), geometric tolerance (GD amp;T), and statistical analysis
  • Experience designing and implementing products for North American OEMs
  • Expertise in engineering theory and principles of design (DFSS, Robust, Six Sigma)
  • Ability to guide and technically influence cross-functional teams without direct management authority.
  • Knowledge of vehicle dynamics.
  • Understanding of modern controls techniques and theory.
  • Knowledge of Mathworks Matlab, Simulink and Stateflow.
  • Familiarity with data acquisition instrumentation concepts.
  • Familiarity with electrical engineering concepts including embedded microcontroller software/controls.
  • Knowledge of debugging, testing, and verification techniques.
TRAVEL REQUIRED (%):
gt;50% travel to meet customers and suppliers with day travel to the various manufacturing facilities as required.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
Ability to use and understand Windows Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and SharePoint, Microsoft (email). This is additional to the computer skill requirements as stated in the requirement qualifications.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Able to read and understand engineering prints/drawings. Good level of analytical skills and interpersonal skills. Ability to work on a team. Ability to guide the efforts of support personnel. Good teambuilding skills.
