School Summary

Great River Connections Academy (GRCA) is a tuition-free public online eSchool serving students in grades K-12 throughout Ohio beginning in the 2018-19 school year. GRCA is authorized by the Ohio Council of Community Schools and governed by an independent Board of Directors. The school is operated through a contract with Connections Academy of Ohio, LLC, to provide its educational program and other services. Connections Academy, a division of Connections Education, is accredited by AdvancED.

Position Summary and Responsibilities

Working from our office in Columbus, OH or your home office within the state, the Math Interventionist will support grades 6-8 with GRCAโ€™s Response to Intervention Model. This individual will support students, parents, instructional staff, and administration.

The Math Interventionist will be responsible for the successful completion of the following tasks:

  • Analyze student learning data on an ongoing and consistent basis;
  • Using data, collaborate with classroom teachers to select students who are in need of tiered math instruction support;
  • Provide diagnostic, prescriptive, and evaluative services for identified students;
  • Provide individual and small group instruction for identified students;
  • Assist with the administration of state math tests and other required state exams;
  • Confer with the instructional staff on the math needs of students and provide suggestions of effective interventions and strategies and discrete skill instruction;
  • Act as a resource teacher in the area of math to regular classroom teachers by assisting them in the organization of the math program, selection of materials, and implementation of teaching techniques to ensure the instructional program relates to the special needs of students;
  • Model effective math instruction to classroom teachers;
  • Provide math resources for teachers and parents;
  • Review curriculum and devise alternate approaches to presenting lessons that will increase student understanding. Work directly with students and parents to implement these alternate lessons;
  • Support the instructional program with asynchronous web conferencing sessions and synchronous instruction;
  • Communicate with parents, students and other teachers on a regular basis to develop and update Math Improvement Plans
  • Collaborate with other teachers to ensure that all students are successfully progressing through the program, that parents have a central point of contact, and that tasks are distributed among the teachers;
  • Keep student records and data up-to-date, including online student and family information, and logging all student and parent contacts;
  • Develop and implement virtual methods of creating and maintaining a โ€œschool communityโ€; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Appropriately certified in 4-9 Math or 1-8 in Ohioย 
  • Strong multi-cultural skills
  • Strong technology skills (especially with Microsoft OS, MS Office programs, and Google Suite)
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written

  • Demonstrated ability to work well in a fast paced environment.
