What is commission horticulture sales?

Commission horticulture sales refer to jobs where individuals sell plants, gardening products, or horticultural services and earn a commission based on their sales performance. These sales professionals typically work with nurseries, garden centers, landscaping companies, or agricultural supply businesses. Their responsibilities include identifying potential customers, promoting horticultural products, closing sales, and providing after-sales support. Earnings are usually a combination of base pay and a percentage of the sales they generate, incentivizing strong sales performance. This role requires knowledge of plants, customer service skills, and an understanding of the horticulture industry.

How does a commission horticulture sales role typically collaborate with growers and suppliers to meet client needs?

In a commission horticulture sales role, professionals regularly coordinate with growers and suppliers to ensure product availability, quality, and timely delivery for clients. This involves frequent communication to stay updated on inventory, negotiating prices or terms, and sometimes visiting sites to assess crops firsthand. Building strong relationships with suppliers is crucial for fulfilling client orders efficiently and for staying informed about new or in-demand plant varieties. Effective collaboration not only helps meet client expectations but also supports long-term business growth.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a commission horticulture sales professional, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Commission Horticulture Sales professional, you need in-depth knowledge of plants, horticultural products, and sales techniques, often supported by experience or education in horticulture or agribusiness. Familiarity with CRM software, inventory management systems, and point-of-sale tools is typically required. Excellent communication, relationship-building, and negotiation skills help you connect with clients and close deals. These skills and qualities are crucial for meeting sales targets, building customer loyalty, and sustaining growth in a competitive horticultural market.

Job description

Part-Time Interior Horticulture Technician / Plant Care Specialist

Location: Houston, TX

Company: Green Oasis

Are you a customer service rockstar with a green thumb? Do you want to work hands-on with plants without having to endure the harsh outdoor Texas heat?

Green Oasis is looking for a self-motivated, reliable, and trustworthy Part-Time Interior Horticulture Technician to join our Houston team. If you are looking for a weekday job with regular office hours where you can bring life into corporate spaces, we want to hear from you!

What We Offer

We believe in taking care of the people who take care of our plants. Even as a part-time team member, you will enjoy:

  • Competitive Pay: Base pay with higher compensation for experienced candidates.
  • Commission: Opportunities to make commissions on sales.
  • Growth & Training: Regular seminars, outings, and meetings for continual education.

About Green Oasis

In business since 2008, we are a well-established, family-owned interior landscaping company. We are gardeners who happen to garden indoors year-round! From 5-star hotels to world-renowned tech firms, we provide commercial spaces with beautiful plants and maintain them on a set monthly schedule. We are a leading source of horticulture expertise, and our success is entirely driven by our valued, team-oriented employees.

A Day in the Life

As the face of our company, you will drive from site to site—visiting professional offices, commercial buildings, and our greenhouse—to ensure our customers' plants are thriving. Taking care of plants and flowers is part science and part art, allowing you to engage both your intellectual and creative sides instead of being stuck in a cubicle all day.

Your core responsibilities will include:

  • Providing outstanding, non-disruptive customer service in occupied professional spaces.
  • Watering, pruning, and cleaning tropical foliage.
  • Filling and carrying water buckets.
  • Climbing ladders to reach and care for taller plants.
  • Driving between customer sites and our greenhouse.

What You Bring to the Table

Experience is a plus, but it is not required! Our philosophy is to hire for attitude and train for aptitude.

Requirements:

  • A positive attitude, friendly demeanor, and a true passion for customer service.
  • A self-starter mentality with the ability to work independently, follow a schedule, and prioritize tasks.
  • A love for plants and gardening.
  • A highly organized, neat, and clean work style.
  • A valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
  • The ability to pass a background screening.
  • Physical requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, walk extensively, bend, reach, and climb a ladder safely.

The Schedule

This is a part-time position working Monday through Friday, usually starting on the early side of the day. We offer flexibility on start times and exact hours, but we do expect our team to stick to their set schedules to ensure dependable service for our clients. Occasional work after hours or on weekends may be necessary.

Ready to Join Our Team?

We understand your time is valuable. If this inside gardening position sounds like the perfect fit for you, please complete our quick, 3-minute, mobile-friendly application. We look forward to meeting you!
