What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a commission based appointment setter?

To thrive as a Commission Based Appointment Setter, you need excellent communication, persuasive sales abilities, and familiarity with lead generation, often supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Proficiency with customer relationship management (CRM) software, telemarketing platforms, and scheduling tools is typically required. Persistence, resilience, and strong organizational skills are standout soft skills in this role. These skills are crucial for effectively securing appointments, achieving sales targets, and maintaining a consistent pipeline of qualified leads.

What are some common challenges faced by commission based appointment setters, and how can they be overcome?

Commission-based appointment setters often face challenges such as handling high rejection rates, maintaining motivation without a guaranteed base salary, and managing fluctuating income. To overcome these obstacles, it's important to develop strong communication skills, build resilience, and set clear personal goals. Additionally, working in a supportive team environment and regularly tracking performance can help boost morale and improve results, while seeking feedback from peers and supervisors can lead to continuous improvement.

What is a commission based appointment setter?

A Commission Based Appointment Setter is a sales professional whose main responsibility is to contact potential clients and schedule meetings or appointments for a company’s sales team. They typically work on a commission basis, meaning they earn income based on the number of appointments set or successful sales generated from those appointments. This role often involves making outbound phone calls, sending emails, qualifying leads, and maintaining records of interactions. Strong communication skills and persistence are essential for success in this position.

How much money can a commission based appointment setter make?

A commission-based appointment setter's earnings depend on the commission rate and the number of successful appointments or sales they generate. Typically, they earn a percentage of the sales or revenue they help close, which can result in variable income ranging from a few hundred to several thousand dollars per month. High performers with strong sales skills can significantly increase their earnings through consistent results.

What is the difference between Commission Based Appointment Setter vs Inside Sales Representative?

AspectCommission Based Appointment SetterInside Sales Representative

Work EnvironmentRemote or office, focused on setting appointmentsOffice or remote, involved in direct sales and client interaction
Employer & Industry UsageCommon in telemarketing, B2B services, lead generationUsed across various industries for direct sales roles

While both roles involve sales activities, a Commission Based Appointment Setter primarily focuses on scheduling appointments without direct sales responsibilities, often working on a commission basis. An Inside Sales Representative typically handles the entire sales process, including closing deals. The roles overlap in communication skills and sales environment but differ in scope and compensation structure.

Job description

Experienced Appointment Setter – 1099 Independent Contractor (Remote)

Our client is a company operating in the timeshare relief space, helping consumers get out of unwanted timeshare contracts. (Company name will be shared during the initial screening.) We're growing the outbound team and looking for an experienced Appointment Setter to help connect qualified prospects with the company's Case Analysts.

About the Role

As an independent contractor, you'll initiate outbound contact with potential clients by phone, introduce the company's services, and schedule appointments for the company's Case Analysts. This role is central to qualifying leads, building rapport quickly, and turning prospects into confirmed, show-ready appointments.

We're looking for someone who thrives on performance metrics, enjoys the challenge of engaging cold and warm prospects, and knows how to create urgency without being pushy. Your main goal: convert outbound leads into scheduled appointments, and make sure every prospect shows up informed and ready for a productive conversation.

This is NOT an entry-level role. We're looking for someone who already knows how to handle objections and close for the appointment — not someone learning the fundamentals on the job.

Key Responsibilities

  • Outbound Prospecting: Make outbound calls and send follow-up emails/texts to prospective clients.
  • Lead Qualification: Confirm leads meet the company's qualification criteria before scheduling.
  • Objection Handling: Address initial objections with the goal of securing the appointment.
  • Scheduling: Coordinate calendar appointments between prospects and Case Analysts.
  • CRM Management: Log accurate, timely notes on every interaction.
  • Performance Tracking: Work toward appointment-setting targets and report on your activity regularly.

Skills We're Looking For

  • Communication: Clearly and persuasively explain the company's services to prospects.
  • Rapport & Sales Instinct: Build interest and trust quickly, even on cold calls.
  • Pipeline Management: Manage and follow up on leads to keep the funnel moving.
  • Organization: Stay on top of call volume, follow-ups, and appointment targets without hand-holding.
  • Tech Comfort: Confident using CRM software, digital calendars, and meeting/video tools.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required.
  • 2+ years of experience in appointment setting, telemarketing, inside sales, or lead generation — required.
  • Proven track record of outbound calling and objection handling.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage your own schedule to hit performance goals (as an independent contractor, you control your hours and methods).
  • Reliable computer, internet connection, and quiet workspace for calls.
  • Self-motivated, competitive, and comfortable with commission-based pay.

How Performance Is Measured

  • Outbound calls made per day
  • Lead-to-qualified-appointment conversion rate
  • Appointment show rate
  • Appointment-to-signed-agreement conversion rate
  • CRM data accuracy
  • Follow-up compliance (calls, emails, texts)
  • Response time to new leads

Compensation

  • Training period (first 2 weeks): $1,000/week flat.
  • After training: Commission-only pay structure. On-target earnings are $6,000–$10,000/month ($70K–$120K annualized) for setters hitting target performance.
  • Monthly bonus for maintaining a high lead-to-appointment conversion rate.

How to Apply

Email your updated resume highlighting relevant telemarketing, appointment setting, or cold calling experience.

This is a 1099 independent contractor position. You'll be responsible for your own tax withholding, and you'll have flexibility in how you structure your work to meet performance targets.
