Manager, Record to Report - Compensation & Equity Accounting
Location: Reston, VA (Hybrid)
Position Overview
The Manager, R2R - Compensation & Equity Accounting will lead accounting and reporting for payroll, commissions, bonuses, and stock-based compensation within the U.S. Record-to-Report function. This role ensures accurate and timely accounting for all compensation-related transactions in a SOX-controlled, publicly traded environment.
The position will oversee payroll journal entries, commission accruals, and equity compensation expense under ASC 718, while maintaining strong internal controls and audit-ready documentation. This role partners closely with HR, Payroll Operations, Sales Operations, Technical Accounting, and External Reporting to ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and corporate policies.
Core Responsibilities
Payroll Accounting
  • Record payroll journal entries and reconcile payroll clearing accounts.
  • Ensure proper accounting for bonuses, incentives, and accrued compensation.
  • Coordinate with Payroll Operations and HR.

Long-Term Incentive & Stock-Based Compensation Accounting
  • Own accounting for stock-based compensation, including RSUs, PSUs, stock options, and other equity awards.
  • Ensure compliance with ASC 718 (Compensation-Stock Compensation).
  • Record monthly stock compensation expense and related equity entries.
  • Coordinate with Equity Administration, HR, and Legal on new grants, modifications, forfeitures, and performance conditions.
  • Support valuation inputs and assumptions in partnership with Technical Accounting.
  • Reconcile equity compensation to the general ledger.
  • Support disclosures and reporting schedules provided to External Reporting.

Commission Accounting
  • Calculate and record commission accruals.
  • Reconcile commission payable balances.
  • Partner with Sales Operations to ensure plan accuracy.
  • Monitor capitalized commissions where applicable (ASC 340-40).

Close & Reporting
  • Prepare monthly reconciliations of payroll and commission accounts.
  • Perform variance analysis.
  • Support audit and external reporting requirements.

SOX & Controls
  • Execute payroll and commission-related SOX controls.
  • Maintain SOX-compliant controls over equity compensation processes.
  • Maintain documentation supporting compensation accrual methodologies.
  • Support audit inquiries.

Qualifications
  • CPA required or strongly preferred.
  • 6-10+ years of accounting experience.
  • Strong experience with compensation and equity accounting and accruals.
  • Experience in publicly traded company preferred.
  • Strong analytical and reconciliation skills.
