Swift Air Mechanical specializes in Commercial and Residential Mechanical and Electrical Services and is located on the Northeast side of Indianapolis, Indiana. We are searching for a Commercial Electrical Project Developer to join our growing team.
The Commercial Electrical Project Developer is responsible for identifying, developing, estimating, and securing commercial electrical construction opportunities. This role combines technical electrical expertise with consultative sales, business development, estimating, and project development to drive profitable revenue growth.
The ideal candidate is a relationship-driven professional who enjoys creating opportunities rather than simply responding to bid requests. You will work closely with customers, estimating, operations, and project management to develop value-driven electrical solutions and ensure a seamless transition from project award through execution. We are looking for someone who can build and grow a book of business, expand existing customer relationships, generate new opportunities, and consistently convert those opportunities into profitable awarded work.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with commercial building owners, general contractors, developers, facility managers, engineers, architects, and key decision-makers.
- Proactively generate new business through networking, referrals, prospecting, and strategic account development.
- Identify, qualify, and develop commercial electrical opportunities before projects are publicly bid.
- Estimate commercial electrical installation projects including engineered, negotiated, design-build, and plan/spec work.
- Prepare detailed take-offs for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors.
- Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, drawings, and project documents to prepare complete and accurate estimates.
- Develop scopes of work, budgets, conceptual estimates, and value-engineered solutions.
- Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor pricing.
- Ensure estimates and proposals are completed accurately and submitted on schedule.
- Present proposals, communicate project value, and negotiate awarded work.
- Collaborate with estimating, engineering, project management, and field operations throughout project development.
- Conduct project handoffs to Project Management after contract execution to ensure complete project understanding.
- Build long-term customer partnerships that generate repeat business and negotiated work.
- Expand existing accounts while developing new customer relationships.
- Develop win strategies that maximize close rates and gross margins.
- Sell value-based solutions rather than competing solely on price.
- Maintain an active sales pipeline, forecast opportunities, and manage customer relationships through the sales cycle.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Engineering, Business, or a related field preferred but not required.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in commercial electrical estimating, project development, business development, electrical contracting, or a related role.
- Strong knowledge of commercial electrical construction practices, installation methods, and applicable codes.
- Experience estimating commercial electrical systems including:
- Power distribution
- Switchgear
- Lighting and lighting controls
- Electrical service upgrades
- Emergency power systems
- Backup generators
- Tenant improvements
- Commercial renovations
- Design-build projects
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and construction documents.
- Strong understanding of labor productivity, cost analysis, budgeting, and project profitability.
- Proven ability to develop customer relationships and generate new business opportunities.
- Excellent consultative selling, negotiation, and presentation skills.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams, customers, vendors, and subcontractors.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Proficiency with estimating software, Microsoft Office, and CRM systems preferred.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment background check.
