Position Overview

Wurth Wood Group, a leading supplier of Hardwood Lumber, Plywood, Molding, Cabinet Hardware/Supplies and Laminate, and Building Supplies is seeking an experienced Tint Specialist to cover the Charlotte branch. The ideal candidate has experience in color matching, is hard-working, organized, self-directed and customer service oriented. Solid benefits and strong earning potential.

    We are currently seeking a Color Lab Technician (Tint Specialist) to join our team at our Charlotte, NC facility. This role requires 1 to 2 years of expertise in color matching, tinting, and finishing techniques to ensure high-quality, precise color results for our customers. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in coatings, stains, and finishes, an exceptional eye for color accuracy, and a strong ability to work in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Color Matching Expertise: Manually mix and match stains and pigmented lacquers to meet exact customer specifications.
    • Use of Spectrophotometer ("Color Eye"): Operate and interpret results from the spectrophotometer to assist in color matching while making manual adjustments as needed for precise color accuracy.
    • Custom Stain Formulation: Develop and adjust stain formulations to account for variations in wood grain and absorption properties. Experience matching stains across multiple wood species (e.g., maple, oak, walnut) is strongly preferred but not required.
    • Quality Control: Maintain high standards for color consistency, finish quality, and application accuracy, ensuring the final product meets customer expectations.
    • Record Keeping: Maintain detailed records of colors developed, formulas, and adjustments for future reference.
    • Equipment Maintenance: Oversee and maintain lacquer spray equipment, dispensers, and inventory to ensure efficient operations.
    • Customer Service: Provide exceptional customer service, both in person and over the phone, by assisting customers with color solutions, stain recommendations, and product selection.
    • Sales Support: Partner with Sales Representatives to fulfill customer expectations and troubleshoot color-related challenges.
    • Catalyzing & Mixing: Accurately catalyze coatings and mix tints with precision and efficiency.
    • On-Site Training & Demonstrations: Conduct spray demonstrations and finishing training at customer facilities.
    • Industry Expertise: Stay up to date with industry trends, techniques, and best practices in coatings and finishing.

    Qualifications

    Education & Experience:

    • Minimum 1 to 2 years of experience in color matching stains, coatings, and finishes.
    • Experience using spectrophotometers ("Color Eye" machine) for color measurement and adjustment.
    • Proficiency in manual color matching by eye, as machine-generated results often require human refinement.
    • Experience matching stains across different wood species is strongly preferred but not required.
    • This role requires a pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.  We also test for THC without exception.

    Technical Skills:

    • Strong understanding of coating application techniques, wood stain absorption, and quality control.
    • Proficiency in tinting, catalyzing, and lacquer mixing.
    • Advanced Excel skills for maintaining color formulas and inventory tracking.
