The Automotive Body Shop Manager is responsible for overseeing daily shop operations, ensuring efficient workflow, high-quality repairs, and excellent customer service. This role manages technicians and support staff, coordinates with insurance companies on estimates and supplemental claims, and ensures compliance with all required training, safety standards, and industry regulations. The ideal candidate is a strong leader with collision management experience and a focus on productivity, profitability, and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
Shop Operations & Workflow
  • Control and optimize shop flow to ensure timely vehicle repairs and on-time delivery
  • Schedule work, assign jobs, and balance workload among technicians
  • Monitor repair progress and address bottlenecks or delays
  • Ensure repairs meet quality standards and OEM guidelines

Insurance & Claims Management
  • Work directly with insurance companies on estimates and supplemental insurance claims
  • Review repair plans and supplements for accuracy and completeness
  • Negotiate with insurance adjusters as needed to ensure proper repair coverage
  • Ensure documentation and photos meet insurer requirements

Team Leadership & Training
  • Supervise, coach, and motivate technicians, estimators, and support staff
  • Ensure employees stay current with required training and certifications
  • Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement
  • Assist with hiring, performance reviews, and disciplinary actions when needed

Safety & Compliance

Customer Service & Communication

Financial & Administrative Duties
  • Monitor labor efficiency, cycle time, and key performance indicators (KPIs)
