Job Description
Summary/objective
The Coordinator of Campus Recreation is responsible for developing, implementing, and assessing a comprehensive campus recreation program that supports student engagement, wellness, belonging, and community at Randolph College. This position provides primary oversight of the esports arena, supports the management of the student center and attached fitness facility, and develops recreational, wellness, and outdoor excursion opportunities that enhance campus life.
The coordinator supervises student staff, supports daily facility operations, and helps create safe, inclusive, and welcoming spaces where students can connect and build community. This position requires some evening and weekend availability to support student-led events and campus programming, as well as participation in the College's Administrative On-Call rotation.

  • Design, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive campus recreation program including intramurals, informal recreation, fitness initiatives, esports, and outdoor recreation opportunities
  • Conduct student needs assessments and analyze participation trends to inform program development and continuous improvement
  • Oversee daily operations of the esports arena, including scheduling, equipment management, and student staffing
  • Coordinate esports leagues, tournaments, special events, and open recreation opportunities
  • Support day-to-day operations of the student center and attached fitness facility
  • Serve as manager-on-duty for recreation and student center spaces as assigned
  • Monitor facility usage, cleanliness, safety, and customer service standards
  • Recruit, hire, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate student employees across recreation, esports, fitness, and student center operations
  • Develop and deliver ongoing student staff training and leadership development opportunities
  • Plan and implement outdoor recreation, excursion, and experiential programming opportunities
  • Coordinate program logistics, equipment management, and risk mitigation for recreational and outdoor activities
  • Ensure compliance with institutional policies, risk management practices, and emergency procedures
  • Maintain incident reports, operational documentation, and emergency action plans for recreation spaces
  • Participate in the College's Administrative On-Call rotation and respond to student and campus emergencies as needed
  • Develop and implement marketing and outreach strategies to increase student participation
  • Track participation data and prepare reports related to assessment and program outcomes
  • Assist with budget management, purchasing, and equipment inventory
  • Collaborate with campus partners to support student engagement, wellness, and community-building initiatives
  • Support divisional and campus-wide events as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Work environment
This position primarily works in the student center, recreation facilities, and the esports arena, as well as in occasional outdoor settings. Some evening and weekend work is required to support student-led events and campus programming.
Physical demands
Requires standing, walking, and sitting for extended periods. Must be able to move and set up recreational equipment and occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
Travel required
May travel occasionally on college business and in support of outdoor recreation or excursion programming
Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 1-3 years of experience in campus recreation, fitness, esports, outdoor programs, or student engagement (graduate assistantship experience may be considered)
  • CPR/AED and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe)

Preferred Education and Experience
  • Master's degree in higher education, student affairs, recreation, or related field
  • Experience with outdoor programming or trip leadership
  • Experience in facility operations
  • Experience in campus recreation or student engagement programming

Additional Requirements
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States
  • Successful completion of a background check
  • Possess a Valid Driver's License
