    Physical Requirements

    This role demands high physical capability, endurance, and the ability to work safely at heights and in dynamic construction environments. You must be able to:

  • Work outdoors for 1214 hours a day in both hot and cold weather conditions.
  • Lift and carry heavy objects; climb ladders, stairs, and structural steel at significant heights.
  • Maintain strong balance, coordination, and spatial awareness.
  • Perform repetitive lifting, bending, stooping, crawling, kneeling, and work in awkward positions.
  • Use tools and equipment requiring grip strength, manual dexterity, and fine motor skills.
  • Key Physical Requirements
  • Strength: Lift, carry, and drag materials over 100 lbs; lift 50 lbs overhead.
  • Endurance: Sustain moderatetostrenuous physical activity for extended periods.

  • Environmental Requirements

    Ironworkers regularly work in challenging and changing outdoor conditions. You must be able to safely and effectively perform your duties in the following environments:

  • All Weather Conditions: Exposure to sun, rain, snow, wind, heat, cold, humidity, and sudden weather changes.
  • Heights: Routine work at elevations from 10 feet to over 100 feet with fall protection systems.
  • Noisy Environments: High levels of construction noise, including machinery, tools, and equipment.
  • Dust, Fumes & Particulates: Exposure to welding fumes, grinding dust, concrete dust, smoke, and airborne contaminants (with required PPE).
  • Vibration: Regular use of impact tools and equipment that create vibration.
  • Uneven or Unstable Surfaces: Walking, climbing, and carrying materials on steel beams, decking, dirt, gravel, and unfinished floors.
  • Confined or Tight Work Areas: Working within limited spaces or around structural obstacles.
  • Heavy Equipment Areas: Working near cranes, lifts, trucks, and moving machinery.
  • Safety Requirements
  • Provide successful completion of OSHA 10 before entering jobsite.
  • Wear Required PPE: Including hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, highvisibility clothing, sturdy leather work boots, fall protection, hearing protection, and welding PPE as applicable.
  • Follow All Safety Protocols: Including fall protection rules, lockout/tagout, hot work procedures, and rigging standards.
  • Use Fall Protection Properly: Tie off 100% of the time when required and inspect harnesses and lanyards daily.
  • Identify and Report Hazards: Immediately communicate unsafe conditions, near misses, or equipment concerns.
  • Maintain Situational Awareness: Stay alert around moving equipment, suspended loads, and changing structural conditions.
  • Participate in Safety Meetings & Training: Including toolbox talks, lift plans, and job hazard analysis.
  • Use Tools & Equipment Safely: Never bypass guards, operate equipment without authorization, or misuse tools.
  • Communicate Clearly: Use radios, hand signals, and voice commands as needed for hoisting and steel placement.
  • Follow Rigging & Hoisting Standards: Only qualified personnel may rig or signal crane lifts.
  • Follow Forklifts and other Powered Equipment Operating Standards: Only forklift certified personnel may operate forklifts.
  • Schedule
  • Fulltime position: 40+ hours per week
  • Monday through Friday, with overtime as needed.
