Job description

A growing organization is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to oversee accounting and financial reporting activities related to development and construction projects. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate project financials, job cost reporting, month-end close processes, and compliance with internal controls. The Accounting Manager will collaborate closely with project teams and finance leadership while providing guidance and support to project accounting staff.


Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the full project accounting lifecycle for development and construction projects.
  • Track and manage predevelopment and capitalized project costs.
  • Maintain project cost coding and ensure accurate allocation of expenses.
  • Support construction draw accounting and lender reporting requirements.
  • Monitor job costs, change orders, and work-in-progress (WIP) schedules.
  • Assist with revenue recognition processes and project financial reporting.
  • Coordinate month-end close activities and ensure timely, accurate reporting.
  • Partner with project teams to support project tracking, forecasting, and variance analysis.
  • Maintain and enforce financial controls, accounting policies, and compliance standards.
  • Collaborate with finance team members to support overall accounting and financial operations.
  • Ensure consistency in accounting practices across multiple projects and business activities.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop accounting staff, including performance management and training.
  • Support internal and external audits and provide requested documentation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of construction accounting, project accounting, or related experience.
  • 2+ years of leadership or supervisory experience within an accounting function.
  • Strong understanding of construction accounting principles, including job costing, WIP schedules, revenue recognition, and project financial reporting.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in construction industry

  • CPA designation or progress toward certification preferred.
